10 Tours in Famagusta That You Shouldn't Miss

December 31, 2021 Almeta Stockton

Famagusta /ˌfæməˈɡʊstə, ˌfɑː-/ (Greek: Αμμόχωστος locally [aˈmːoxostos]; Turkish: Mağusa [mɑˈɰusɑ], or Gazimağusa [gɑːzimɑˈɰusɑ]) is a city on the east coast of Cyprus. It is located east of Nicosia and possesses the deepest harbour of the island. During the medieval period (especially under the maritime republics of Genoa and Venice), Famagusta was the island's most important port city and a gateway to trade with the ports of the Levant, from where the Silk Road merchants carried their goods to Western Europe. The old walled city and parts of the modern town presently fall within the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Gazimağusa District, of which it is the capital. It is also notable as the birthplace of the eponymous hero of the Renaissance proto-novel Fortunatus.

We visited the zoo the other day, it has most animals you could think off, they seemed well kept for the most part, a zookeeper mark allowed us to get a once in a lifetime photo with a giraffe, and you could tell he cared deeply about the animals, thought it was a great day out. We did think the monkey enclosures could be bigger and were a little on the small side, again with the birds and the ostriches. But other than that, the majority of the animals seemed to have big time enclosures and plenty of space to roam. And they are all rescue animals from what I understood, so have deffo got a better quality of life. I wouldn’t eat there though we went to the cafe which had run out of hand sanitiser when we entered, so we informed the staff, but then when we left it still hadn’t been refilled which during corona times is quite irresponsible. But if you like going to the zoo, take your own lunch and hand sanitiser and you will have a good day out ????

I can't believe this is happening and it is all on the mandatory pre-paid quarantine package organized by the Ministry of Health.

This trip was excellent, we had an amazing driver Tiny? Who was very knowledgeable about everything, even stopped on route for fruit tasting from the bushes and herbs smelling, was fun. Covid-19 safety and general safety was paramount. We stopped of in several places, coffee, wine tasting, lunch in a lovely location with endless food, small village location and lots of off road fun. We think we had the best driver and would recommend you ask for him as he made our day.

The jeep ride was a bit too fast for my liking, especially on the winding mountain dirt roads. We enjoyed the natural reserves and the beautiful natural views though. It would have been nice to get more info on the places we were visiting, but maybe there wasn't much to them apart from the pretty views. The boat cruise was ok, lots of passangers, an hour to the Blue Lagoon, and hour there and an hour back. The Blue Lagoon itself was a bay full of other ships like ours, I thought it was going to be a little more quaint. Overall it was alright, always an experience and new sights seen.
