WORST hotel experience of my life

Reviewed By Rakshi

Six cabanas on a hill overlooking the ocean. No onsite management, just a surly caretaker. We had booked 2 nights on Expedia. We liked Mazunte and wanted to stay one more night. Our cabana was available online but we could not book it because of a 2-night minimum. So we asked the caretaker. He checked, and told us okay. We returned from the beach after sunset in wet swimsuits, looking forward to a shower, to relax, and then go to dinner. Instead, we found that the caretaker had crammed all our things into our suitcases and removed them from the room, and he was barring the door! He said it was rented to someone else. I suspect he failed to note it as occupied, and someone else booked it online. We had a very difficult time finding another room because the town was completely full. My companion searched online while I tramped the neighborhood. I finally found something by sheer persistence - I returned to a place that had already turned me down and they dug up a little room they don’t usually rent. And you can bet the surly caretaker did not help carry our suitcases down the 135 steps to the street. AVOID this hotel!

Pleasant staff always smiling and ready to help. 10 minute walk to beach. Or 10-20 minutes by taxi to various other beaches at a minimal cost. A must visit when in Tangolunda (Huatulco)

Magical two weeks at Las Palmas!

Reviewed By maryfromottawa2016

It is hard to put into words how magical our vacation at Las Palmas was. The accommodations and property stunning; the staff and service excel. Service excellence begins with Courtney’s help with reservations and continues with Talina’s (manager) pre-arrival email offering transportation and groceries (for a fee). We stayed in the Parrot’s Perch Casita. It is a beautiful pool-level casita with views of mountains, pool, gardens and partial ocean view. A stunning fresh fruit basket, with coffee, welcomed us. Each day, housekeepers, Jenni or Judi, made our casita sparkle, provided fresh bed linens and replenished towels. The pool is pristine and never busy. We enjoyed time with other guests who were friendly, offered tips on sights and restaurants and even escorted us on several outings! We made good use of the beautiful main palapa for BBQ, dining, reading and games. Two roof-top terraces offer spectacular sunset viewing (as does the palapa). Las Palmas staff are amazing. Talina and the concierges (Luis, Oscar and Angel) greeted us daily, offering helpful ideas for outings and dining. Groundskeepers, Sacarias and Eliseo work tirelessly to maintain the beautiful gardens. We enjoyed many beaches, several within walking distance or a short taxi ride. Snorkelling at the two beaches closest to Las Palmas is excellent. We also enjoyed outings into La Crucecita, the nearest town, as well as Santa Cruz (beachfront community en route). Many thanks to the wonderful staff; can’t wait to see you next year!

WONDERFUL !

Reviewed By Vincent M

We stayed at the Paraiso de Los Angeles with our children and friends in February 2022 for 10 days. We had Villa Roja, and our friends were in Villa Palmera. This place is wonderful, a haven of safety, comfort and beauty, ideal for relaxing on this wild and beautiful coast. So yes, driving there is a bit tricky, but don't exaggerate, it's quite manageable! Once you're there, it's heaven! The views are breathtaking, we spent hours looking out to sea, watching whales, pelicans, birds of prey (the hosts provide you with binoculars). Our hosts gave us very good advice, we went to a protected reserve to watch the crocodiles, and another one to see the turtles lay their eggs, and release the baby turtles into the sea. We went to a new beach every day to swim, eat in excellent restaurants, and watch sunsets that moved us. Villa Roja is super nice, functional, unique in its architecture as well as in its position, perched on a rocky point. In the morning we could watch the sunrise with the sound of the ocean. Villa Palmera was also absolutely unique, with its coconut roof and infinity pool with an amazing view. During our stay, we were also able to count on the loan of masks, snorkels, umbrellas and booster seats from Edgar. All in all, it was a wonderful holiday during our European winter. The only difficult part of the holiday was our departure, we wanted to stay! Thanks again to Edgar for your hospitality!

Posada La Barca

Posada La Barca is tucked between to hills in a very private beach on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. We have ten rooms available for daily, weekly or monthly stays. Six of these rooms have kitchens and all ten rooms have private bathrooms and refrigerators. Perfect location to snorkel and just relax. Cheap, Basic, Good Location

Reviewed By MurgieH

If you are looking for a cheap stay with no hot water, uncomfortable beds, and no maid service this is the place. The location is great for being on the beach and just a quick walk to lots of good restaurants. However, there is a steep, uneven, rocky, and dusty walk from the road to the hotel and a flashlight is needed in the evening. There is a fridge and a standing fan in the room. The bathroom was small, the sink was in the shower area and the toilet was separated from the shower by a curtain. I stayed for 10 days, had my bed linen and towels changed once. One small circle of soap was in the bathroom when I arrived and no more was given, no shampoo or shower gel. They did have a good supply of fresh water in an outside central location for all guests to fill their own bottles and in the same area was a place to make coffee. It is in a peaceful spot with great views but if you want any home comforts this is not the place to stay.

The last of us....

Reviewed By ElCartoharvetta

On arriving and seeing this place, i wanted to ask the driver to about turn. However, we didnt and entered. Checked in in the sweltering heat outside; there is no indoor reception. However, during the process, we were given some cold drinks by the woman dealing with us, and she put some fans on. The deserted half finished buildings on either side are quite offputting. Grey concrete monoliths with the jungle reclaiming them. The room itself was a timewarp. However, it had a fully functioning 1980s fridge, and a full cooker from the same era. The interior is ok, but its ramshackle and bitty. The aircon was also old, but worked wonderfully. The tv has only one spanish speaking channel. Out on the balcony, the view is stunning. Someone on tripadvisor proclaimed here 'paraiso!'. I would agree. The beach is a hell of a hike down, but is nice and mostly private. There are no private beaches allowed in Mexico, so dont be fooled. I climbed teotihuacan sun pyramid last week and it was less exhausting than the hike back from the beach. Pool area is what makes it for me. We had it to ourselves completely for the four days we were there. Spotlessly clean and tended to. This hotel is not a suite, but simply lodges. It is set high up and is remote. You need a taxi to get to the bahias and La Crucecita, although we bothed walked both at least once, but definetely a taxi back. Taxis are 25 pesos, so not expensive. The staff were all really friendly and welcoming and the woman in charge was so helpful and patient. She spoke no english, but spoke slowly for us so we could translate. She has good knowledge of the area, and could answer everything we asked. She was outraged when we told her the cost of our taxi from the airport, and set us up with a taxi back at a quarter of the price. The wifi was bad, but she contacted the provider for me and found an english speaking person so i could say what the problem was. She also offered us any room we wanted to help remedy this. The staff also did a laundry for us, ironed, for free. They also provide breakfast, continental, and will provide a fresh pizza if needed. The problem here is that someone in the past had a vision to make this place place a hilltop paradise, but maybe run out of money, and stopped building or progress. The staff here have been left to get on with what they have to work with, and do what they can. The staff would get 5 stars on tripadvisor, the accommodation probably a 2. So i have kind of gone midway. I would recommend, but i would say be wary, and dont expect a luxurious experience for the whole stay, but for privacy, no fuss and kind hearted staff, then go ahead. If you want a spa type experience, look elsewhere.
