The Clifton Hotel

Good for a short stay in central Weymouth

Reviewed By philiphK9431TR

If you want a short stay in central Weymouth then you can't do much better than this, being across the road from the station and within few minutes walk to Beach, Harbour, or Town Centre. Whilst first appearances might be off-putting ,with reception being the Pub next door, the accommodation and service were good. The room we had was spacious, comfortable and clean, whilst breakfast options were freshly cooked and of good quality. The owners clearly work very hard to run both the hotel and adjacent pub and they do a good job. In addition they were very warm and welcoming.

People are able to rent periods from 2 days to 4 weeks in these wonderful homes, enabling them to spend quality time in this picturesque area of Dorset. All the houses are set in a quiet woodland glade surrounded by stunning fir trees and wonderful wildlife, birds, butterflies and animals abound in this forest setting. The Dorset Golf & Country Club hosts some of the most challenging golf in Dorset and is recognized as one of the golfing gems of the South of England. Brilliant Golf Break

Reviewed By Trudy J

2 Night stay away with 3 golf friends. A great stay in the wooden lodges and between the four of us each had a sofa. All 3 bedrooms had en-suite and fully equipped kitchen but our rate included half board with breakfast and lunch at the clubhouse. We really enjoyed the golf with a FLAT 27 holes and during the 3 days the holes were mixed around. I don’t know as ladies if the pro put us on our own start every round but we didn’t have pressure from other players coming up behind us. The course was in good condition and challenging in places so plenty of good course Managment and the woodland course I personally found really difficult but the rhododendrons in full colour made up for it and it to be missed. I must mention Scott and the other lovely man in the pro shop as they were so helpful with everything including helping with our cards. The breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice and a good English breakfast and a 3 course dinner every night. We spoke to other groups who had been coming for years and we can see why

Me and my parents Stayed at this lovely guest house in Christ Church. Was a excellent stay the room was very good and spotless . The breakfast was fantastic as the Owners catered for the fact that i have celiac disease so offered me a gluten free breakfast which was no trouble for the owners. When we arrived was greeted by Vince which was excellent service. the Guest house had hand sanitizer bottles at the entrance to the property which was excellent with Corona Virus going around. Also felt it was excellent that we were given a complimentary hand sanitizer bottle. Can not fault this place good location as well. Will definitely be returning again sometime for another break.

Dirty and unsafe

Reviewed By Sheena M

Lincoln House is nothing what it looks like in the photos advertised on Booking.com. This hotel is like something out of the Adams family. We were met by I presume the owner, in dirty jogging bottoms. The outside has piles of rubbish. The reception area was cluttered. The carpet on stairs and landing was filthy leading to our room. The room had wood cladding on all the walls. A bed was pushed up against a fire. Broken taps in shower. A massive black spider fell out of the tap when turned on. Balcony felt unsafe when walking on it. Patio door to balcony could not be locked. We left within 10 minutes of arriving and neither booking.com or Lincoln House will give us a refund. Reviews are all lies. It is not suitable for families. If I do t get a refund I am contacting environmental health. It is appalling.

Beware, this is not a hotel.

Reviewed By Charlie K

We booked on the day for two nights. The photos looked good and the price was reasonable for the area. The photo of the front of the property is heavily cropped, the property is a converted house with huts at the back of the property. The mysterious shared kitchen reference really is a shared kitchen, serve yourself and sit at the only table. We were appalled and said so to the person receiving us that we were very disappointed and would not stay there at all. I referred to the ' full refund' statement on the web site and said we would not expect to have to pay. He agreed that we could cancel. Needless to say an email sent on the day to the owners cancelling the booking was ignored. A reply from them said it was not refundable. Booking.com seem to wash their hands of any complicity in a misleading description

Very poor dirty hotel

Reviewed By Peteuk69

The room size was small but ok The bed was broken and put together with spare planks of wood. The mattress was heavily stained and smelled badly. When we pointed this out to the manager he offered a poor response handing us a mattress cover which had black mould on it and again smelled. The room window and shower cubical where cracked and broken the shower door did not close. The widow blind was also broken. There was a fridge in the room the door was hanging off and fell off altogether once opened. This is the worse hotel I have ever seen ! We did not stay but had to rush round and find a clean hotel. The one good thing I can say is the owner gave a no quibble refund of our money. A very stressful experience !
