Over priced and Under Delivered

Came to the Globe for an evening meal while on holiday having been on previous occasions prior to the restaurant being refurbished. Meal was over priced for the small sized portions with the menu over selling an average meal. The steak salad was little more than a few leaves while two of our party also thought their chicken was under cooked and left their dishes. No one wanted to stay for a desert. Staff were polite but thin on the ground so not really attentive. On top of the expensive meals a 10% service charge was added which was a joke. Sorry Globe, but we will not be visiting you again for dinning.

The Victoria

Standing at the gateway to both Holkham Hall and the Holkham National Nature Reserve and beach, The Victoria, affectionately known as ‘The Vic’, is a classic English hotel and restaurant owned by the Earls of Leicester. There are ten elegant, individually designed bedrooms, with an additional ten across the road in one of the oldest buildings on the Estate: Ancient House. The sympathetic refurbishment of Ancient House has retained many of the building’s original features, such as the bay windows and Tudor chimney pots, combining authentic charm with luxurious modernity. All bedrooms have been designed with an emphasis on comfort and quality; guests can opt for a double or twin bedroom, or a spacious family attic room, or from a choice of four suites in Ancient House which have their own attractive sitting rooms. For guests who need level access, there is a ground floor double room with full access and a wet room. The rooms are made up of mix of contemporary and antique pieces of furniture which add to the charm. The rooms are all named after shooting drives on the Holkham Estate, and you will find nods to this theme in the décor too. Dogs are welcome to stay in the rooms at The Victoria and are also allowed throughout the ground floor. The bar and dining rooms offer a relaxed blend of style and comfort, as well as incredible views over the nature reserve. The Victoria serves delicious locally sourced food, much of it grown and raised on the Holkham Estate with a bold emphasis on freshness, simplicity, and value.

Felt transported back to the Victorian era

Reviewed By Nelda22

Have you ever considered travelling back in time to a previous lifetime when you traveled by carriage? Well the Victoria certainly is one of those places where time stood still... yet modern amenities have been added (easy to get into shower, wifi, ...). From the moment I stepped in to the second I was helped into my car by a charming young man everything felt perfect. I was even welcomed into my room by a lovely plush deer that matched my Bambi travel bag and that you may wish to take home with you. The restaurant is lovely. Its staff charming. Perfect sea bass. Location : the perfect exploration base and just in front of a long road leading to the huge beaches. Will I come back? If I ever happen to be in Norfolk again...most definitely! Fell in love with the place!

Cosy and convenient

Reviewed By Ldn1987

Avril was quick to respond and helpful with tips for the area. You can tell she's passionate about Wells NT Sea. The room itself was cosy, a bit of a squeeze but it's because of a good king size bed and two comfy armchairs. Everything was clean and tidy, with fridge, tea & coffee facilities. Thank you for the little bottle of wine on arrival. There are only small things that were not to our liking - one was the shower curtain (although this was clean, I personally find it difficult as it can cling to you and most are notoriously unsanitary), and the non-white towels. Again, just personal preference. We had a set of brown... We could also have done with an extra pillow each but I'm sure if we asked we could have had them. Be aware that due to covid, there are several requirements for guests to make it safe for the host and future guests including emptying your bins at the end of the stay, and breakfast isn't included but you can order a packed brekky at an additional charge. Overall a great location and a convenient stay in such a beautiful area.

Lovely food, great service & also dog friendly! Would recommend the tempura prawns & chicken pasta dish. Visited whilst on holiday in Wells. It is a tad pricey but the quality makes it worth it. We visited whilst on holiday & will return in the future.

Avoid garden room 4

Reviewed By Eileen P

Stayed her for 2 nights, booking in was strange nobody there just key left in envelope with your name on it. Was allocated 2 rooms as went with another family member garden room 2 was acceptable but garden room 4 was just awful. The smell of dampness when opening the door hit you, then the wardrobe was just a curtained off small section of the room and the bathroom was so small you couldn’t dry yourself in there unless you remained in the shower to do it. We tried to get in touch with the owner via email and phone calls to the emergency number all which went unanswered. The following morning after breakfast (which was nice with a very bouncy friendly waitress) we noticed the people in room 3 were leaving so we were then able to move into that room which again was acceptable and we would have had no problem with. The courtyard is a pleasant place to sit in nice weather and it’s a shame that a place with great potential has been left to slide although we did see when we went into town that the business has been sold so I’m guessing the current owner has lost interest. Pictures are off Room 4 rooms 2 and 3 are much better

Hygiene Standards

Just had the most wonderful meal at The Three Horseshoes celebrating my mother’s 81st birthday.. Unfortunately they failed on the last hurdle.. My mothers desert was served in a badly chipped glass bowl only then to find a shard of glass in the dessert.. This could easily have been swallowed by my mother with consequences unimaginable!! Although staff where apologetic, it did not come across with much sympathy and empathy.. Although the price of dessert was taken of the bill. Nothing else was offered !!! Having worked in the catering industry for many years to a level three food hygiene I don’t feel that this was handled with the respect it needed !!!

The Lifeboat Inn

A disastrous evening.

Reviewed By Janet W

Expecting a lovely meal in the Lifeboat dining room pre booked in March. Main menu not offered, then due to overrunning refurbishment there was an electricity outage. Too late to go anywhere, no management and very understaffed eventually got a cold snack and no apology from management. Man behind bar was rude. Never will we return.
