Spa break & meal

Reviewed By BGrace30

Visited here having booked a spa break and overnight stay. The spa isn’t really a full spa but a treatment room, outdoor hot tub and an inside sauna, there is no pool or place to leisure once you have finished your spa day. There is a small relaxation room but this could fit 4 guests in at one time at best. That being said, the treatments at the spa were excellent- we all had massages and found them very good. The hotel itself is quite dated and we often found it unclean in places, cobwebs etc. We were disappointed there was no lunch menu available in the day only sandwiches which were pricey for what they were. Service also wasn’t the best. The evening meal however was delicious and couldn’t be faulted, plenty of choice and good value for money. Overall would eat here again but would be reluctant to call this a true spa day.

Wanted a comfortable quiet relaxing stopover on our way to our main holiday. Loved the extras you get in Premier Plus, especially the Nespresso machine and pods. We both gave mobility problems but our 2nd floor room was very very quiet and with the lift was no problem for us to access. I have spinal nerve problems but the Hypnos mattress was heaven - i shall but myself one for home now. Staff were lovely too and meal deal well worth it. I would stay longer at this hotel in the future, when exploring this area.

Really friendly and pleasant stay

We had accessibility needs for this stay and the staff were caring and accommodating. The family room was large and modern, the bathroom especially nicely decorated. The pool area is great with wood ceilings, warm water and lounge areas. It has advertised times for children and families. Breakfast was plentiful and relaxed with tables spaced apart. Special thanks to the lady on spa reception for going over and beyond and to the reception staff for a warm welcome.

Room for improvement

Have stayed at this hotel regularly since 2008. Booked a long weekend even though the prices were very high. I had presumed it was because of the half term school holidays, but the staff told me there were various local events happening. It was strange as I have never seen the car park so empty! (see photo) The hotel, regrettably, is becoming 'rather tired' with stained carpets. In addition the chair in our room was stained and torn too (see photo's). The staff were great though and were very helpful. Although there is a restaurant on site for evening meals, it appears the majority of guests eat out or have pizzas / Indian meals delivered. This hotel needs someone to promote it. At present it appears just to be a 'bed & breakfast' place and has no character. It would be more up to date and appealing to some guests if electric car charging points were available

A fantastic 60th birthday celebration

Reviewed By Noel M

Our family visited the Old Rectory/ Orangery for my 60th birthday party. The setting is fabulous. We hired the Fig Room which seeks a maximum of 14….we were 12 and it was just perfect! The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough to help. Lisa in particular masterminded everything to ensure that we had everything that we could possibly require. They allowed us to decorate the room and put on a song choices during the whole afternoon. They even left some 60th birthday decorations and balloons that had been there from previous celebrations which were much appreciated. My family wanted to do certain things which may have been frowned upon by other establishments but the Orangery staff entered into the spirit with all of it which made it so much more special! It really was made to feel like home from home! Thank you to you Lisa and the team….we all had a fantastic time!! ????

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE

Reviewed By O5162HJclairea

What an awful hotel. Booked weeks and weeks ago as we were travelling for a family funeral on 1st April. Got a message 4 days before to say they could no longer accommodate our booking and requested I cancel. Have gone on to cancel today and had to ask for the fee to be waived as they were going to charge us the full cost (we didn’t cancel they did!) So fast forward to the booking being cancelled and I’ve gone back on to have a look out of interest to see if we could get an explanation as to why they cancelled us at such short notice to see that the rooms are back up for the exact same dates but at twice the price. Absolutely shocking! I messaged after receiving the first email i had requesting that I cancel the booking because they could, “no longer fulfil it” and explained that it was a funeral we were travelling for, to which the reply was they were very sorry but the cancellation was due to “unexpected circumstances”. TOTAL LIES So to put it plainly, they’ve cancelled our booking purely to charge more for the room. LOST FOR WORDS.
