Grove of Narberth

Nestled in the rolling Pembrokeshire countryside sits the idyllic Grove of Narberth, a truly magical retreat with a light hearted and unbuttoned feel. This hotel is widely regarded as one of the finest small luxury hotels in Wales with an outstanding reputation for its sensational food and warm hospitality. Its elegant house and charming cottages are surrounded by manicured lawns, flower borders, meadows and mature trees all sat in their own glade with a meandering stream with views to the Preseli Hills. This truly unique destination is perhaps a little eccentric, avoiding the wholly unconventional or appearing contrived. Warm professionalism and bonhomie pervade here, creating the opportunity to showcase intimate relaxed hospitality at its very best. Inside you’ll find meticulously restored interiors, full of atmosphere created with a blend of hand-crafted contemporary furniture and Welsh antiques, arts and crafts. Lovingly restored and thoughtfully designed this hotel has a delicate eye for modern luxury whilst never losing its unique sense of individuality. The Grove offers 12 intimate guest rooms and 13 suites, many of which have been recently refurbished and designed by acclaimed interior designer Martin Hulbert. Guests in need of pampering will enjoy the deep cast iron baths and wonderful in room massages. Gaze out of the windows for scenic views of the Preseli mountains, or explore the Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, its sandy beaches, little harbours and unrivalled coastal walks. The hotel has 2 restaurant offerings including their fine dining restaurant called the 'Fernery' and a more relaxed and informal restaurant called the 'Artisan Rooms'. Guests can expect exceptional food, expertly prepared by their hugely talented Executive Head Chef, Douglas Balish. The cuisine has won national awards and critical acclaim, including 3 coveted AA Rosettes, Wales Tourism Awards and listing in the Good Food Guide. Grove is the only 5 star hotel in South West Wales as well as being AA Hotel of the Year for Wales 2020 and the Sunday Times Best in Wales 2020. This venue is simply the perfect place to relax in intimate luxury for those who love their food and want to create an authentic and memorable experience whilst exploring this most stunning part of Wales.

I cannot fault anything ...and I'm fussy!

Reviewed By N B

I only have good things to say about this hotel after completing our recent stay over the jubilee weekend. From start to finish, the staff at the hotel made us feel welcome without being obtrusive, and we really cannot fault anything. Having stayed at another 5* in Wales and being disappointed, The Grove is a good example of everything a hotel should get right. They catered for our dietary requirements which we did not even consider a possibility before it was suggested at the time of booking. I especially appreciated how the staff dealt with this in a way that felt completely natural. Because of this, we were able to enjoy the tasting menu to the full at The Fernery and our more relaxed meal at The Artisan the next day. I still reminisce about how delicious the food was. My husband who is not a fan of tasting menus thought the experience at Grove exceptional. Our room (Carrege) was cosy, full of light, airy and open. The hotel was thoughtful in stocking the mini bar and in leaving a small gift for my birthday in the room. Around the hotel, the staff leave you to it when you are perfectly fine by yourself, and approach you when needed; they strike the perfect balance. The staff were all lovely, however the two names I do know are John (at check-in) and Tilly (at restaurants); both of whom were so warm and lovely. I can be fussy with hotels and become annoyed by low-pressure showers, missed dusty corners and icks in the bathrooms. Not one here! The grounds are lovely, and the beautiful coast is a 30 min drive away. While we like to explore new places, if we wanted to come back to Wales, it would be The Grove without hesitation. A sincere thank you to all of the staff at The Grove (but especially John) for being so thoughtful, considerate, and warm.

Plas Hyfryd Country Hotel

Hotel Plas Hyfryd, a small privately owned 3 star hotel, is situated in Narberth, in the heart of Pembrokeshire and only a short distance from the seaside towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot. Being central within the county, Hotel Plas Hyfryd is superbly located to take a peaceful 'away from it all' break. Little is known of the Hotel's history, Thomas Thomas, a retired surgeon, built 'Belmore House' and lived here until 1829. The house was designed by James Hughes, who was responsible for much of the development in Narberth. The name 'Plas Hyfryd' translates to the English 'lovely palace', and when you enter the front entrance and are greeted with the palatial staircase, it is easy to see why. We have fifteen en-suite rooms, including family rooms and executive suites and a stylish restaurant with an excellent menu by one of Pembrokeshire's most renowned chefs. Our function suite has all the modern facilities and comfort you would require whether you are planning a wedding, family celebration, business conference, team building event or training day. We hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you as a guest at the Hotel Plas Hyfryd. Our team are committed to a friendly, personal and professional service and look forward to extending a special Pembrokeshire welcome!

A spectacular place

Reviewed By I2545

We have just spent the most magical weekend at Plas Hyfryd as we were so fortunate to meet Bethan at a wedding fayre in March 2020. We had our wedding 28/5/22 and what a wedding!! The venue is spectacular, quirky style mixing old and new, fantastic outside space and fire pit tables that extended our outside time long into the night. The staircase - wow!! The rooms are comfortable, well equipped, clean and great hospitality tray. The food was unbelievable, it's great if you go somewhere and the quality exceeds your expectations but to do that for 3 courses for 80 people all eating at the same time demonstrates such high standards and organisation. Every one of our guests has commented about flavour, portion size, the ability to serve so many and all receive hot food. Our wedding will be talked about for years to come. We didn't meet Carl and other kitchen staff but they are amazing!! Finally the thing that made all of the above that bit more special were the staff. It would be so difficult to single any one member of staff out. They are professional, attentive, they are friendly. They enhanced our whole experience, their smiles, their enthusiasm - a tight, happy ship. We cannot recommend all aspects of our stay highly enough. If you want an overnight stay, a meal, a wedding, they will make it special. We would highly recommend. Thank you so much team. ❤️❤️❤️

One of our favourite places!

We love holidaying here! This was our 3rd stay here and each time that we have stayed we have been in a different style of caravan but have not been disappointed. We were in the Carew holiday home this time around and as with our previous stays stays it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We all commented on how comfortable the beds were and how there was plenty of living space for our party of 6; the kitchen was very well equipped and of course the hot tub is a lovely added bonus. The site is really well maintained and the staff are so friendly. We were able to make use of the outdoor pool during our stay this time, which the children loved. The van is situated right next to the pool so we were able to see it being cleaned thoroughly twice daily. The site is also conveniently located, with a short walk into the lovely town of Narberth and being close to the many attractions that this part of the world has to offer. Given all this, obviously we have already booked our next visit!

Had the pleasure of stopping at the Cross Villa for a couple of nights for a quick weekend break with my son. Arrived late, but Chris had left instructions for us on arrival. On arriving we had booked the twin room and it was well decorated and spotless with a lovely en- suite too. A good nights sleep was had on both occasions and welcomed in the morning by a beautifully cooked english breakfast. With local attractions and seaside destinations in close proximity Id have no hesitation in coming here again.
