Best B&B on the South West Coastal Path!

Reviewed By 753alistair

This was the best B&B I stayed in over fifty days walking the South West Coastal Path! The breakfast beat all others with wonderful locally sourced ingredients and lovely yogurt to accompany my granola. There was even a complimentary Easter Egg to mark Good Friday! The owners were wonderfully welcoming and helpful, supported by their friendly dog and an affectionate cat who loves to cuddle new friends - although they kept a respectful distance from guests who did not like pets. Room on ground floor well decorated with comfortable, high quality bedding. Set in historic town house with period features - the rooms are named after warships that fought at the Battle of St Vincent. Location was perfect for accessing South West Coastal Path, as well as the Coleridge Way and Two Moors Way that pass Lynton too.

Outstanding location and authentic atmosphere

Reviewed By Jes C

We did know that we had booked a seaside hotel with good views but had no idea of what was really in store for us until we had climbed the steep road to Lynton, down a narrow access path and up the driveway to the North Cliff Hotel. This place must be seen to fully understand how spectacular views from the dramatic location combined with an authentic interior decoration of classic seaside resort of days gone by beefed up with modern facilities like TV and internet produces the ideal place for a unique and unforgettable holiday stay. On top of this add the kindness of hostess and owner Rebecca, a sumptuous and delicious breakfast with a stunning view, a funiculaire/tram in the backyard to save you walking back up the steep hill once you have hiked down to enjoy fish & chips in picturesque and romantic Lynmouth below. Or you can walk up the hill to visit quaint Lynton and its small shops, market stalls or ample choice of restaurants. But to go to sleep with the view from your room og the setting sunrays on the distant head rock and walking up again with the sun rising over that same bluff is an experience of a lifetime which will always stay with you.

Grand hotel

Good hotel. Would definitely stay again. The building itself was old, was once very grand. It needs a lick of paint on the outside and the windows. That said the rooms were nice. The linen and towels very clean as was most areas. A little bit more maintenance with the paint brush in a few corners of the room would make all the difference. Staff really nice. Breakfast good. Shower really powerful and hot as you could want. Overall good.

An absolutely perfect stay!!

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is absolutely first class. The hosts were so welcoming, kind and thoughtful. This is the second time at staying in Lynton and the first time at staying at Rockvale House and it most certainly won't be the last time of staying at this hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was the most tastiest we've ever had, with plenty of choice with homemade bread and marmalade too. The food was of a most excellent standard. Phil and Ness were the most nicest couple and nothing was too much trouble. We felt that we had known them a long time, that's a true sign of how professional they are in what they do, they made us feel so welcome. We left saying that we will most certainly go back. Lynton is a delightful quaint place to go to.. There is even a small cinema there (68 seats) which used to be a church, we watched a latest released film, Top Gun, Maverick there during our stay. We went on walks to Watersmeet and also the Valley of Rocks which are the most gorgeous and picturesque walks we've ever been on. Rockvale House and Lynton are an absolute delight, real gems, can't wait to go back!

Amazing location, but ...

Amazing location and warm welcome at this hotel, really not a 5 star. Shame really, just a few minor details could make a great difference ... clean outside seating that would allow enjoyment of the breathtaking views ... greater breakfast selection and general service overall.

Very friendly hosts and great location

Reviewed By 895serene

Great location for me to explore Lynmouth, Minehead and Clovelly. Very clean rooms and all amenities were very good. Victor and Alison was very friendly and full of ideas for me to explore even on a rainy day. Breakfast was one of the best I had so far in a guest house. Sink in the bed room separate from the bathroom was unexpected but that did not interfere with anything.

Another excellent stay

Reviewed By argyleninja

Second visit this year. Another lovely friendly welcome from Rachel, Lee & the team. This is a lovely country hotel with a lovely well decorated restaurant, The rooms are very well priced and a joy to stay in. The bar is lovely with a local pub atmosphere - the locals are very friendly! We enjoyed the food and Lee puts on different daily specials to add variety. We have stayed in many B&Bs in Lynton/Lynmouth over the years but for the past three years, our three times a year holidays, we have stayed in the Crown. This is down to excellent rooms, great food but mostly the friendly welcome and interaction form the team throughout our visits. Thank you team for another lovely stay.
