I stayed here for a night last week whilst in the area for work. Decent parking at the rear of the hotel and a quick friendly check in. Room was ok, clean enough but a bit on the small side but it was ok for a quick overnighter. The hotel is located right in the town so plenty of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance.I’d definitely stay again if in the area.

Formerly a Georgian Dower House of the Northerwood Estate, Forest Lodge Hotel blends historical charm and contemporary style with warm hospitality. Located just minutes from the ‘capital’ of the New Forest, there’s plenty of walks from the door and an array of boutique shops just a short stroll away. The restaurant’s chic interior and the team’s relaxed, friendly approach to service creates a warm and inviting space for a casual dining experience whilst prime hand-cut steaks farmed in the Wiltshire and Somerset countryside, aged for 28 days and seasoned with thyme & butter to bring out the best flavour take centre stage on the menu, alongside a mix of modern brasserie classics. Stylishly decorated, rooms are comfortable, modern and ideal for both long or short getaways. The large indoor, heated swimming pool is also a big attraction and is exclusively for hotel guests. Family friendly, dogs are welcome too.

Hotel 3 star at best

Reviewed By Simonarch82

We stayed at Forest Lodge hotel for the second time, after visiting 3 years ago, both times were for when we visited Paulton’s Park. The hotel is conveniently located 10 mins drive from the theme park, and a 5 min walk to Lyndhurst, which is a charming little town with great cafés and shops. There is also a lovely pub next door, the Waterloo Arms, which I highly recommend for lunch with a great garden and local beers on tap. Since we stayed 3 years ago the standard has either dramatically dropped or I forgot how low it was. We booked Forest Lodge as it was advertised as a 4 star and they do a great job at branding it really well on their website. The hotel is a 3 star at best. The rooms are decent but basic, the decor is much to be desired, but spacious and the bunk beds, tucked around the corner worked well for our little ones (3 & 5). At first appearance the rooms were clean but upon closer inspection this wasn’t so. Paint chipping off walls, stains on the carpet and blinds, a huge cobweb in the bathroom. The blinds were also broken. We didn’t have a great experience either, we stayed 2 nights and the first morning we had no hot water at all, so neither me or my wife couldn’t shower (a minimum expectation for a hotel) and we couldn’t bath our kids. We complained and the reception said they would go to our room and check, and when they came back they said there was hot water, but yet when we tried again and let it run for at least 5 mins, there was none. We also used the pool, which was decent, but the towels in the rack were all damp, the sauna was broken and pool was freezing. We booked dinner that first night and when we arrived at our 6pm booking the restaurant was empty and soulless. The menu also looked expensive so we decided to cancel and head to Prezzo on the High Street, which was full and bustling and you can’t go wrong with pizza for kids! The second day we went to Paultons Park and when we returned in the early evening we found that our room had not been made up, no new towels, water etc. again we told reception and they were surprised as they said it should have been on the rota. The receptionist swiftly brought up fresh towels to our room but it did seem like she was the only staff member in the whole hotel! Some positives about the hotel: the breakfast was great, an excellent selection of hot, cold food. Also the staff were all very friendly and were accommodating to our issues. In all fairness to the issues we experienced with the hot water and room not being attended to Paige the GM was understanding and very apologetic. I would say that if you are looking for a basic 3 star conveniently located to Paulton’s Park and in the heart of the New Forest then this is fine but if you’re looking for a spot of luxury then this is not for you. For almost £200 per night this is not worth the money and there are better hotels nearby for a little more.
