Gemoor Khar

Gemoor Khar is a Home Stay and part of the estate founded in 1920s by Thakur Mangal Chand Rais and Vizir of Lahoul. Unlike other properties on the route to Leh these comprise of two cottages with open spaces and uncluttered view of the mountains perched in the skys and the river Bhaga meandering at its feet! There are several activities that one can pursue including walks , picnics , camping , visiting age old monasteries . In fact the oldest Gompa of the area is just half an hours walk from Gemoor Khar. One can also visit Khangsar Khar , the Castle of the rulers of Lahoul , which has 108 rooms and the magnificent views of the enormous glaciers over looking it. The property has 6 well appointed rooms with attached bathrooms and open views of the mountains. There is a separate dining room in traditional style where food is served both on MAP basis as well as as per menu. We generally serve vegetarian food but non veg can also be served. We have a good collection of books for you.

Best place to stay with family

We were travelling in a group with kids and we found this place quite good with fabulous views, spacious rooms and bathrooms with running hot water. Food was basic though they tried to appeal to both kids and adults with their attempts at making pasta etc. However, the attic rooms are totally avoidable and there is almost zero network on the premises. Best place to stay in the region if you are looking for comfort and have kids with you. Can explore the quaint monastery next door for some nice views.

Poor Taste in ownership!

Reviewed By APH0TEL

The so called owner who has the place leased from a local teacher is someone who will constantly remind you that you are not welcome there. The staff forgets stuff and has to be constantly reminded or the approvals from the "owner" take time to flow. so the assistance is limited. The Staff is temporary and doesn't know anything about the location and will not be able to give you the true Spiti experience. I would suggest to take shelter in a warmer local Homestay where your presence would be much more appreciated.

Rooms were good, the view from the room was good, the location of the hotel was good but the staff was really pathetic. All the associates served us really in a poor way. They didn't even provide toiletries and towels to us and the food served at the restaurant was also not up to the point. We faced a problem with one of our bikes in the morning and none of the staff members were accommodating, instead they were whining about getting us checked out so that they can get the rooms back for other guests. Value for money is totally zero at this hotel. Not at all recommended.

Zostel Homes Tabo

The sun shines brightly on the wheat fields, desert mountains, and mud houses, making their browns glow gold with the dawn. Time here moves slowly as kids make their way to the only school in the town, grannies milk the many cows, and the monks continue with their everyday chores in the world’s oldest monastery. This is life here in Tabo, a miniscule village in the Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Its lakes and waterfalls freeze in the winters, whereas summers bring the entire landscape to life. And in both, there is equal beauty, meant to be savoured separately. ZostelX Tabo is a quaint little home just off the highway, holding apricots in its front yard and views of the gorgeous rainbow mountains from its balconies and windows.

The Best Place to Stay

Reviewed By adizdebest

It was one of the Best Stays we had during our Spiti Valley Road Trip. Mr. Chhoden, the owner is perhaps the best host I have met till date.. His humility and his soft spoken courteous nature will always stay with us.. Although it is a small walk to the Hotel from the road where the car has to be parked, the hotel ambience makes up for the little fatigue.. Very clean and spacious rooms and bathrooms.. The views of the mountains from the room were very pretty.. We Star gazed in the view by the fireside and the talks with most hospitable host lost the track of time and lasted till 3 am. The next day morning, the host guided us with the places to visit around but could not cover all due to late morning start. But the memories of staying at this place will always remain warm in our hearts.. We would recommend people to stay at this place at Tabo. Cheers to the most amazing host, Mr. Cherring Chhoden.
