Return visit

Reviewed By Janice H

Having stayed here 4 years ago and loved it, we were eager to return. It was however not the same as we remembered it. Our room was clean but the sliding door latches were mostly broken or not functional, the bedside light had no plug adapter so not usable, the brown water dribbled from the bath tap (this was rectified once I brought the issue to management’s attention), there was clearly a water leak in the corner of the ceiling and the room just looked like it needed a bit of maintenance. We could overlook all of it but the way the owners wife treated our waitress over dinner, in front of us, was totally unacceptable. The poor sweet girl was almost in tears. She has opened the door next to us, at our request as there was a large party going on in the small dining area, nobody wearing masks and no fresh air. Without asking or calling the waitress aside she harshly reprimanded her in front of us. When I intervened and said that I had requested the open door, I was ignored as she continued to lambaste the poor girl. It left a very bad taste and we will not be inclined to return.

We offer guests peace and tranquility as we are surrounded by orchards and vineyards and overlook the Klein Swartberg mountain range close to magical Towerkop mountain peak. We are 450kms from PE and 330kms to the centre of Cape Town, thus perfectly situated for a one night stop-over between these cities. We have 4 double en-suite rooms, all with steps leading to them. Each of the rooms have separate entrances that are connected to a shared veranda of the main house. We do not have self-catering but cater for you in our on-site restaurant. It is a casual dining area and the central point to come and enjoy sundowners on the deck whilst enjoying one of our famous gourmet burgers for dinner. Other menu on request. Our breakfast is very popular with our guests.

Great Stop Over

Stayed 1 night enroute Cape Town on a GS Adventure tour.. Debbie and Eugene are fantastic hosts, good company, great Chefs.. Very good location, quiet, comfortable and clean. The bar/restaurant area is great and you get the feeling you are out in the middle of the nature. Well stocked pub, great fire place and we really enjoyed our stay. i'll be back ! Water in the shower could be hotter and more pressure. It was on trickle... For winter, I would also recommend putting electric blankets on the beds, and floor mats

Where everything is just perfect!

Reviewed By wannagoplaces2

We stayed 3 nights in this wonderfully rustic, but luxurious Herd house. We were spoilt with beds and bedding to die for and a fully equipped kitchen with everything you need. The early morning game drive did not only entertain us with giraffe, different antelope (of which there was a baby kudu calf), etc but the landscape was more beautiful than we ever imagined. Coming home every day to a cleaned kitchen and braai...thank you Jackie for this. And Vicki, we could not ask for a better host. We came there as tourists/clients...and left as friends. Hope to visit again soon.

Overpriced

Reviewed By Celia_Stan

Beautiful old house but with a sad neglected feel. The room was clean and breakfast was good, if average and cost extra as it’s not included in the accommodation price. The pool was horribly dirty, couldn’t even see the bottom and had broken, rusted metal pipes bolted to the side going into the water. No wifi in the bedrooms, apparently the walls are too thick, only in the passage outside. Loadshedding was blamed for the fact that the motor gate could be pushed open and closed, so parking is in the garden but not secure. No hot water in the morning in our bathroom and loadshedding couldn’t be blamed as there wasn’t even a trickle of water coming out the tap, strong flow of cold water though. Overall impression is that it is worth staying but at half the price.

We camped at Oakrest in April. It is the most beautiful camp site, lovely grass on a sweet little dam. The views are unbelievalbe and the atmosphere is peaceful and inviting. Excellent ablutions and well equipped kitchen. Phillip is an outstanding host and nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend Oakrest to any traveller that enjoys the finer things in life : )
