We stayed here for one night on our way to Inverness to travel the NC500, and were blown away by the quality and service provided by Mark and his team. 2 weeks later we stayed another night before travelling home, and this proved that the first visit wasn’t a fluke. The quality at this B&B is nothing short of exceptional. Everything is “just right”, from the furniture & decor to the marvellous food at breakfast & dinner. Mark makes everyone feel at home and extremely comfort from the moment you step in the door. As an ex-chef, it is clear he still has a passion for food. Breakfast is exceptional, and the dinner option during Summer months is a “must have” - why walk into Fort William, which is quite run-down, when you can have the quality of food offered by Mark. If that’s not enough, the bedrooms are a good size, with high quality furnishings and extremely comfortable large beds. We have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation, and it would be our first and only choice when visiting the area again.

We decided to stay just outside Fort William at this Hotel as it looked like an ideal location with good free parking facilities, and a short few minute drive to the centre of Fort William. When you arrive and the view you see is just so breathtaking, as the Hotel overlooks and is on the edge of Loch Lihnne, the Corran Ferry is just down the road too. It's a good location to explore the area, and we stayed for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis. The room was nicely decorated and modern, with all the amenties you need. Breakfast was good with a buffet selection, and again the view from the restaurant is like a picture postcard. Staff were polite and courteous, and could not be faulted at all.

Had dinner here at the end of May as a birthday treat. Greeted by staff with a glass of champagne I believe and directed to a drawing room where we were offered nibbles and canopies. I thought the canopies were ok but nothing i hadn't had before really and a second glass of fizz would have been nice but perhaps I could have asked. We were then taken to our dining room which was sizeable with 3 tables for 3 couples and though I was seated looking out a window it also left me with my back to the room. We opted for a bottle of wine from the list and thereafter enjoyed a 5 course meal with beef wellington as the highlight. I won't go through individual dishes and though we did very much enjoy the meal I thought the starter and cheese course could have been punchier. Given the service levels and situation of the hotel a dining experience is quite expensive so it's up to the individual to decide if it's worth it. For us, maybe just about.

4 Star View but not 4 Star Standard

It's some years since I last stayed at the Moorings and therefore the first impression on this visit was disappointing, not being greeted by friendly reception staff, but by an automated check-in machine that didn't accept the QR code advised in advance. I wasn't the only guest checking that was having problems with the system and there was no staff on duty in reception. So much for the advertised "Warm welcome at the hotel" The location of the hotel is still stunning and my executive room was very spacious. The staff both in the bar and bistro were extremely helpful. However it's the little extras that can make a difference, for example my room balcony table had a lair of dust on it and remained that way throughout my stay. The room did not contain the dressing gowns, slippers etc. so I mentioned this to a staff member and it took over the first 2 days of my stay before they eventually appeared, despite mentioning it on several occasions. The hotel advertised that you got a complimentary newspaper of your choice but as I couldn't get anyone to respond when I phoned reception to choose my newspaper I asked at breakfast to be told that they don't do newspapers. I also asked where the gym was, that is advertised as I couldn't see any signs inside the hotel. Only to be told they haven't had one for some years. I am also still waiting for the chocolates that are supposed to be in the rooms each evening. The room is also advertised has having a coffee machine so once unpacked I thought I would make a coffee only to find that there was no coffee pods for the machine and no response when phoning reception. I eventually spoke to the Manager to be told that they don't put coffee pods in the rooms as the machines are rather old and people misuse them. He did find me a few pods and I found that it seemed to spurt out water everywhere and was obviously faulty. So I gave up on trying to use it and settled for sachets of coffee. I was disappointed that guests were being told at breakfast that there was no decaffeinated coffee, and also the fact that on my 3rd day I returned to the hotel at 5.30pm to find that my room had not been serviced. Also during my stay the function area, part of the dining room had a rubbish sack lying throughout my stay. I would consider returning to the Moorings due to the location and the comfortable rooms, however only if the above issues were addressed and I would think twice about paying for an upgrade room when some of the so called extras do not exist.

Old and run down hotel.

Hotel is old and in disrepair. Small room, dirty windows, trash outside window on roof overlooking train station. Bathroom in disrepair (side of tub separating, hot towel rack not working), One in our group had room with horrible smell so finally asked to change room. They were expecting them to complain ( so why not fix problem or don't rent a smell room?). Eating there terrible. We had group so tables set up. 1 dinner had rolls but no butter. No water or drinks so had to ask for. I had fish for dinner which was very small piece with nothing else Scraped the goop off fish. Horrible! More problems but too tired to write. Basic message look for better, cleaner hotel.
