Wotton House, an IHG hotel

For 400 years, Wotton House has done things differently. Home to John Evelyn, a botanist and arboriculture expert, who purchased Wotton Estate in 1579. He was passionate about the role of plants in our diets, lived as a vegetarian and was considered a pioneer. This sense of eccentricity lives on at Wotton. From our 17th century Italian gardens – the first in England – to our pillared library, you’ll discover something unexpected and delightful at every turn. What’s remained throughout the centuries is our sense of warmth, charm and individuality. Aside from the extraordinary gardens, our house too has its own unexpected story to tell. We were home to the Canadian Army during the Second World War and in 1947 it became a fire training centre for The Home Office. Soon afterwards, the house became the national Fire Service College. Today, our house is a home from home; a place where you will create unforgettable memories that will stay with you long after you leave.

Lovely overnight stay

Reviewed By Lisabunny

We stayed here for a little post-birthday treat (group of four - inc. two 12 year olds). Lovely characterful hotel, well-appointed and with a friendly greeting from reception staff upon arrival. Ample outdoor free parking within the grounds. Our family room was an adequate size for one night - one double bed and two single fold-out beds. Breakfast came with a good choice. Both our lunch and dinner, in the bar and restaurant were of good quality too. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were nice to have, and we were able to use these facilities twice during our stay and at times to suit us. Pool temperature was good. The surrounding gardens were nice for exploring. All in all, a great stay and I would thoroughly recommend this hote for an overnight or weekend stay.

I have just spend four nights at this Hotel (split into two visits a couple of days apart). I have total admiration for Diane the General Manager and the way she approaches her work, her staff and the complete running of this great Hotel. She really does lead by example. In these difficult times after Covid with the ever continuing staff shortages, Diane and her team clearly pull together and make you feel really special and that nothing is too much trouble. It was obvious that they were all working hard and really shared their work loads. Not only were they running the Hotel but on average, hold 3 Wedding a week which is no mean feat. Well done to Diane and all the staff and especially Paul.

Good value for money

Stayed 1 night as we went to Wootton House, Dorking for a wedding reception. Excellent value for money & only a 10 min drive to venue, easy to book a cab. Would have been nice to have a cooked breakfast in the morning, but we drove into town, which wasn’t too far. Over all, a basic but clean hotel, ideal for what we needed it for.

A delicious meal

Reviewed By brianpoconnell2

We had an excellent experience for our delicious meal. The only criticism I would say is that I don't mind service charge of 10% being included but there should be an option to take it to 12.5% if you wish. (Hence the 4 stars for value for money) We were very happy and pleased with all other aspects and will recommend.

Great escape

Rooms very good quality. Breakfasts are great. Lovely to be able to walk around the vineyard during the day. Only catch for us was that the rooms were very warm (with large windows which could be easily opened fully in the ground floor) and didn’t have a fridge which made it more challenging with our baby. All the staff were really helpful.

We had a lovely stay in the front double room. A beautiful space with amazing views. It has a private (spacious and equally lovely) bathroom across the hall. The owners are very friendly and relaxed despite living in a stunning Edwardian villa! They are very happy to share it with you. Breakfast was serve yourself but from high quality ingredients and warm croissants, toast etc were available too. Excellent location as only 5 minutes walk fro the High St, but in a quiet almost rural feeling area. Plenty of parking on street. Would definitely stay here again.
