Perfect Stay
Reviewed By zaiShanghaiI spent a long weekend with friends at the Intercontinental Thousand Island. It was the second time I went, and I'll surely go again. The landscape and view is sublime -- no other hotels around, just a dreamlike massive lake with little islands all showcased by the hotel's innumerable huge windows, terraces, balconies, walkways etc. If glorious Nature is what you want, this is it. The property is huge and you can wander in many different ways -- down to the water and along its edge, up into groves of fruit trees, and the hotel gardens and groves (yummy strawberries, mandarin oranges, other seasonal fruit trees...) Both visits I had fantastic rooms with wonderful amenities -- high quality body/hair cleansers and lotions, fruit upon arrival, huge bathtubs you can practically swim in, super-comfortable beds and pillows, expresso machine with good plenty of spring water, a lovely balcony to lounge on with a divan and cushions, and so much else. Breakfast was a feast. Just about anything you could want was there, ranging among Western and Chinese dishes. My favorite was the freshly made wonton soup in which I must have put 10 different condiments! But there were croissants and pancakes, all kinds of eggs, sausages, salads, etc. The list seems endless. We ate somewhat late -- around 9:30 when the crowds start to dissipate a bit (but you can always eat outdoors on the terrace, which I loved), so we tended to skip lunch--breakfast was so fulfilling! Sometimes because we were in Club rooms we'd go to afternoon tea or Happy Hour. There's also a mid-level Chinese restaurant about a 7 min walk from the main hotel. My friends enjoyed going there several times for dinner. The food was fresh, homestyle, quite palatable. The service at the hotel was exceptional. Every staff member I ran into was immediately responsive, warm, smiling and very "can-do" -- that's really exceptional in China. In particular, both myself and my friends were thoroughly impressed by and grateful to Alan, the head concierge. No matter what question or need we had, he responded with immediate support, warmth and amazing efficiency, Actually, it's because of Alan that I brought my friends (and their adolescent children) back for a second visit. The first time I'd come I'd run into terrible problems with my reservation, which I'd foolishly made on Hotels.com. I made the trip from Shanghai out to Qiandaohu burdened by such anxiety because of my reservations, so messed up by Hotels.com. I literally felt physically ill. As soon as I arrived at the Intercontinental, however, and asked for help, the staff sent Alan to me. He straightened out everything very fast, upgraded me to a very peaceful, serene room, and basically watched over my wellbeing like a hawk the 3 days I was there. I've never felt "at home" in a hotel. But I surely did then. So I went back during Thanksgiving holiday with my closest friends. We all had a truly refreshing, relaxing, wonderful time. Alan again was so wonderful. No question but that I'll keep returning. And I warmly encourage others to as well!

Dated and in need of refurbishment, but overall an average stay
Reviewed By ZarzaTravelsQuite average for a 'Western style' Hotel in China. Room was spacious, but dated - with an air of guests past. The balcony was nice, but looked on by others. The bathroom was between the bedroom and the balcony, with a lovely deep soak bath and separate toilet / shower area. The blinds and curtains, again dated, need to be renewed. Two steps led up to the bathroom area with a desk, TV, kettle etc. The bed was large and comfortable, and a range of TV stations / films on demand. I had to wipe down the surfaces around the room, as they weren't as clean as they could have been. The gym had good facilities, although the cleaner insisted on hoovering and wiping the machine I was on whilst I was still on it which wasn't great! Careful with walking outside, as the exit by the gym is a one way door so you can't come back in, and needed to go round the other side to try and get back in. The pool was closed for refurbishment. Spoke to the trip desk to try and find out some more information about the local area, they didn't speak English but helped with translation through the phone. Location is ok if self-driving. Overall, an ok stay but wouldn't be keen to return.

Large and functional
Reviewed By bcheongHad a large business meeting here with 300 of us. Oldish hotel but large. Nice view of the man make lake. My suite was large and nice. Service in general very good There’s a buffet restaurant and chinese restaurant. Lots of conference rooms for meetings I’m a Marriot Ambassador and the front desk bluntly said “no points since this is a group booking”. Oh well 7/10

Beautiful hotel and grounds, so-so breakfast, beware pigeons

When the bus came up the road, I thought I was at Lake Como, as the buildings looked like those in western countries than in China. We stayed only 1 night, and had a lovely walk around the hotel grounds. The room was comfortable, though the bath tub was really not designed for showers, as lots of waters would seep out onto the floor and there were no drains nearby. Breakfast was disappointing despite lots of varieties. Lots of pigeons around, and they perched up on the ledge near the hotel entrance (from the pool), so the areas around that can be quite dirty with the droppings.

Reviewed By Aidin VWow! That was wonderful! I woke up with peacock songs. I sow 7 of them on a tree. It was a unique experience for me. Hotel was good. Although it was in country side it has some electric shuttles for transporting to city center.

Window in the bathroom

I was sharing with a colleague who has been a friend for five years so we are both quite relaxed spending time together in a hotel room - he did spend a little over a week as a houseguest two years ago - but when it comes to the bathroom I don't want anyone, including my wife, watching me when I am at my most vulnerable. OK, there is a roller-blind that can cover the window, but that does not do what it should at all. So that was all that I needed to complain about, I didn't pay for the room, as it was a business trip so may feel different the cost came out of my own pocket. The breakfast buffet was alright, with lots of choices but I was hoping for western-style sausage and bacon to go with the eggs and toast but no. My room was a good size, cleanliness was not a problem, the balcony was a lovely size, I wish I had been able to eat my breakfast on it and enjoy the amazing view but I never got around to doing that.

Decent room, poor food
Reviewed By TobiasRobinsonThis hotel was decent. The pool and gym facilities were good and the bedrooms were okay - comfortable beds but dated decor. I stayed for three nights but found myself rather hungry near the end of the trip. My diet whilst staying here consisted of noodles in soup with a little soy sauce. I was not prepared to eat chicken bum or pig trotter, sorry but this is not a favourable diet for someone like myself. This may just be my western naivety but the food was just not to my liking. 3/5 overall experience.

Beautiful View, Aged, Overall Good
Reviewed By thecow10000Booked 2 rooms for my immediate and extended family. My room had a balcony and panorama view. It reminded me of both the Sun Moon Lake (Taiwan) and Toka Lake (Hokkaido Japan). The food at the restaurant was delicious and reasonable for a hotel. The service was good overall. Our room was a bit aged and I felt that it could do a little better for the price we paid. Overall the family had a fun time here and I would recommend the hotel.

Top Hotel With Lovely Lake View
Reviewed By Oxon93Lovely hotel with spacious and well-equipped rooms. My room has a lovely view of Thousand Island Lake. It is located on one of the islands. It is not possible to drive onto the island. Your car needs to be parked in a hotel parking lot off the Island. But, there are golf cart like carts to transport yourself and the luggage onto the island. It is actually quite convenient. Alternatively, you can walk with your luggage through the access bridge to the hotel which takes about 10 minutes. The hotel grounds have trails that surround the Island making nice morning walk. Breakfast is excellent Chinese breakfast with noodles, rice porridge, and dim sum. The room even has an oolong tea set for you to make tea .

Rare Gem at Narada
Reviewed By skyadamIt was a hectic workshop, but the breathtaking scenery at Narada helped to counter it into a memorable experience at Qiandaohu. In addition, particularly commending on Summer Yu for her professional and swift response in handling my miss-placed item after checking out the hotel. She understood, listened carefully to customer and took action to update customer in timely manner. Summer is definitely a rare gem at this beautiful Qiandaohu who makes a big difference to customer's experience at Narada!
