We only offer two of the bedrooms at Chipperkyle; they are both large and comfortable with private bathrooms. One is en-suite the other is adjoining. These rooms are west facing and are often flooded with sun so much so that we have to pull down the blinds - would you believe it in a Scottish home?

Douglas Arms Hotel

The Douglas Arms Hotel comprises a substantial and extended corner 2-storey painted stone property under pitched and slated roof. The property has been laid out to offer 23 upper floor bedrooms and a 3- bedroom apartment. The generously sized ground floor has been sectioned to provide a corner restaurant (with side lounge) and a public bar (accessed from St Andrews Street). Furthermore, there are two meeting rooms, and a large 80 cover rear function suite (Stewart Room) situated to the rear of reception desk. At the rear is a detached 2 storey red brick building which is currently not being used due to suffering fire damage around 2006. Next to this is a sheltered, walled external seating/drinking area. Attached to the red brick building is a steel framed industrial styled canopied roof over approximately 15 car parking spaces, accessed via a pend off King Street or from the rear from Cotton Street.

Be aware hotel is not staffed out of hours, and additional payments and documents are required.

Walked away from this one , hotel dead /not a single staff member mid May evening , the extra security payment is totally out of the blue at the deserted locked front door .Without a smart phone you would be totally lost . No emails or contact - how do they not know who's booked in and contact details ? This hotel may come to life one day but at the moment this is not the service of the future and may even be unsafe for some.

Fabulous service

How could anyone write a poor review about this quiet, quaint hotel, set in the beautiful town of Castle Douglas, with independent shops and lovely nearby walks. The hotel deserves 5 stars just for their service, they could not do enough for us. The food is all home cooked, vegetarian also and very nice too. If all that is not enough, its dog friendly. I wish the hotel my best wishes in these very difficult times. Stay safe everyone.

Truly love these family hotels, hospitality as it should be, will definitely return on my next road trip. We stayed at this hotel for one night in the Master Suite with our 1 year old cockapoo. This hotel ticks all the boxes for being dog friendly. Very large gardens for him to roam about and the room was exceptionally spacious with a super king-size bed which was very comfortable. Because the weather was fantastic we ate outdoors for the evening meal. Good choice of menu and would suit most tastes. Another plus was the very large welcoming siting area with a log burner where breakfast was served. Great country views from the window seats. The owner Shushank was fantastic and could not be more helpful even our cockapoo called Titus took to him straight away. Enjoyed our stay.

Excellent service, lovely food

We visited here for pub grub after a day out and we were not disappointed. We had the haggis tower for starter then a burger each. The kids had lasagne. All very generous portions and served by lovely girls who were very friendly. We have wanted to eat at the Market Inn after we seen on Facebook during lockdown they were offering free meals to families who were struggling, genuinely such a nice thing to do. We will be back!

Perfect place to relax

Reviewed By thewife1406

From the minute we arrived until the minute we left we felt so at home. Our hosts were brilliant, thankyou! There are not many B&B's where you get full use of a kitchen and gardens, why go out when you can sit and relax with an amazing view. Great choice of food for breakfast and great coffee. We will definitely be back!
