This hotel was very nice. Small room but had most everything. Not sure if it's true in all of Asia, but in the three hotels I've been in so far, they do NOT supply face cloths. Be advised. Lots to do and see around this Hotel. Great eating places. I never did get the room to cool down to my liking.

Not the best

Reviewed By Jess C

The hotel lobby is clean and fresh but the desk staff speak no English (understandable as we were inChina but they made very little attempt to try and communicate via translating apps)and we were not able to pay for the hotel with card. The hotel room itself was stuffy and smelt of mouldy cigarettes. The air conditioner in our room was broken and we asked three times (in Chinese) for it to be seen to, each time we were told they would send someone up but nothing happened. The only redeemable parts to the hotel were the location (around 30 minutes walk to the bell tower and Muslim street), the orthopaedic pillows and the male reception staff member who was the only one attempting to communicate and help us. For a hotel claiming to host ‘international guests’ there was no support on what to see/ how to see it in the area. Not even a map given to us.

This is a beautiful hotel with friendly staff. We had a lovely stay. The only issue, as noted by others, is the noise. Bring good ear plugs and insist on a room on the upper levels. Overall, we would definitely return - it's a lovely spot.

Memorable Stay

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night only. The rooms are spacious and the décor was beautiful. Actually, something happened to us when we went to the hotel. However, the hotel manager has helped us, though we are not quite fluent in mandarin 'macam ayam dengan itik' but the manager's attitude to help us in that situation were very much appreciated till today. Overall, we really satisfied with the services and helped given. Overall it was a pleasant and memorable stay and I'm highly recommended to all.

cheap stay

Reviewed By trituty

We booked a standard king room for 2 nights that cost around 750CNY, it was located on the 4th and highest floor and there are no elevators. The staff were english speaking (mostly) and they have a lot of group tours available which they might try to get you to sign up for. These are expensive, i went on our own and found it far cheaper than what they offered. There is a convenience store nearby so its pretty easy to stock up on water and snacks. The rooms themselves were okay, with peeling wallpaper and rock hard beds with thin pillows, but what do you expect for this price eh? The location is walking distance to the Metro which gives you a faster access to the Muslim Quarters and drum tower.

Amazing interior, but important cons to consider

Reviewed By goyourownway

N34°16'1.1" E108°56'27.7" (WGS-84) The three Warriors apartments are in block B of the Hong Cheng or Hong City International Apartments Buildings at 15 West Gate Lane/Xihuamen Dajie. On Xihuamen Dajie, find the fire department building with the red doors. Next to number 1 door, starts an alley leading to the apartment buildings. The apartments are close to the Xi'an’s Muslim quarters and subway station Zhonglou (Bell Tower) exit A on the red number 2 subway line. Maps on TripAdvisor and other online booking websites point at the wrong location. We checked the GPS-coordinates above. Beware of the Chinese GCJ-02 datum obfuscation algorithm that distorts all mainland Chinese street maps. Chinese street maps on non-Chinese devices have a build-in offset between 100 to 700 meters to the north-west compared to the actual position on satellite images. To have proper GPS-navigation in China, Chinese devices correct this build-in offset in Chinese street maps. As other reviewers noted, communicating with the owner, Clarence Gou, is a bit difficult. You have to be patient. He does not respond quickly on requests for information and when he responds, these are mostly one-word answers. Clarence had several websites about his three apartments, but none exists anymore. The same about his numerous email addresses. At the time of this review, Clarence uses email address 793347586 at qq dot com. He can be reached on Chinese mobile 13519197819. In August 2017, we paid cash RMB300 per night for two persons without breakfast. For an additional fee, his apartments are bookable on internet booking websites. Clarence has two apartments on 2F in Block B with number B0201 (Pit 1) and B0207 (Pit 2) next to each other since 2007/2008. Pit is a reference to the Warriors and Horses museum. These apartments have the much-publicised interior of Terracotta Warrior and Horses, a unique selling point. This theme is even present in the bathroom and kitchen. Reviewers have noted that these apartments are significant nicer 2-bed apartments than his third apartment B0703 on 7F, which does not have the Warriors and Horses interior and lacks Wi-Fi-reception. We did not check this information. On arrival, we phoned Clarence who lives 5 minutes away. We received two numbers: one for the number lock of block B and one for the number lock of the apartment. Our apartment B0207 (Pit 2) has two bedrooms with double beds, dining room, kitchen and living area. It is equipped with air conditioning (not functioning well), washing machine, ancient CRT-television, Wi-Fi reception, microwave, fridge and hair dryer. The bed slept well and the shower was good. Reviewers noted that Clarence is an English language guide to the Terracotta Army museum and wrote a book about this subject. We did not take up his offer to be our guide, because we did visit the Terracotta Army before. As many reviewers noted, cleaning and maintenance of the apartments should receive much more attention. Just look at the kitchen. After 10 years in use, wear and tear is visible everywhere and the apartment needs a major overhaul. In the first years, Clarence offered free coffee, tea and beer (yes, read the last page of his guide) and served breakfast in the apartments. Not anymore. If you crave for French breakfast or are tired of Chinese breakfast, a Tout les Jours bakery on North Street nearby offers French breakfast at non-Chinese prices. Summarizing apartment B0207, major pros are the Warriors and Horses interior and the location near the Muslim quarter and the subway. Cons are clearly the effort contacting Clarence and the cleaning and general condition of the apartment.

Tiny But Fabulous

Reviewed By Sam B

This is a really interesting spot, more a B&B than a hotel - there are only (I think) 5 rooms. It's hidden in a really interesting corner of the city with some great noodle restaurants nearby, and is run by a friendly team (note, not everyone speaks English). You won't get all the facilities of a more standard hotel here, but you will get loads of charm and character. Look forward to coming back.
