First Visit to Ajijic

Our stay at Casa del Sol offered comfort, convenience and service that went far beyond our expectations. This place is so nice and peaceful. The property is very well cared for and nicely appointed. Our room was quite comfortable and had a balcony that overlooked the beautiful pool area. Breakfast was great, especially Sunday brunch. Elizabeth and her staff were exceptional in making us feel at home. As well, they were quite helpful to us as we planned our daily explorations of the town and surrounding area. When we visit the Ajijic again (and we will) I hope that we will be able to stay at Casa del Sol.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The view from the 3d floor room was incredible. Overall hotel is very peaceful. The restaurant's hours are a bit limited for us at 9-5 (off season hours?) No complaints about food or service. Meals were consistently good, large and delicious! The service was outstanding, and everyone was very pleasant. Very happy and comfortable vibe. Our room was lovely, clean and maintained well throughout our 2 weeks stay. Water pressure was good & hot water readily available. The bed was extremely comfortable. There is no elevator, but the staff was very helpful with our luggage. In fact, the staff was ready to help with all our requests and also arranged a tour guide, Alex, to take us on a several hour tour of the area. Highly recommend Alex!! Both the owner and the manager were available throughout our stay and each shared valuable information about Ajijic. We will be returning and highly recommend the 3rd floor!

First a bit of context. My wife is from central Mexico and I am from the Midwest USA. We live and work in central Mexico. Before COVID, we traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. We are both bilingual and bicultural. We had a trip to Guadalajara planed for New Years and we decided to leave a day early to see Ajijic. We did not have reservations. My wife looked on line for a hotel during our 5 hour drive. She noticed that the prices that on the website that offers reviews and prices from several booking services were rising as she continued to look, so we decided to go directly to the hotels in which we were interested. Hotel Lindo Ajijic was the first hotel we went to, they had a room and parking. The price that they gave us was half of what we were seeing online. The hotel is beautiful!! The gardens, the pool, the hot tub, the guest common areas, and the kitchen area are all extraordinary. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. The streets are well maintained (this is very important in Ajijic as most of the pueblito is horrible). The staff was excellent. One of the best features was the kitchen area. In the morning the staff prepares breakfast for the guests and it is wonderful. The rest of the day, the area is open to the guests to prepare their own food. Also, the area has a beautiful view of the pool area, garden, and a bit of the lake. We were in room 5. It was very nice and smartly decorated and clean. The bathroom was a bit tight but all the doors opened completely. Now the reasons I did not give the hotel 5 stars. The air conditioner made horrible noises, grinding, banging, and squealing to name a few. The noise seemed to be cyclical as the noise would stop and a short period of time later, would resume in the same pattern. The noise was such that it was difficult to sleep and it would wake you up. The window did not open, so your options were to deal with the noise or the heat. When we checked out, we informed the staff about the noise. They acted surprised and said they would check into it. The staff had to know about the noise as the room is above the reception desk. Also, the sheets were quite itchy and uncomfortable. The pueblito Ajijic was a huge disappointment, especially close to the lake. My wife and I travel extensively throughout Mexico and have visited many of the pueblitos mágicos and there was no magic in this pueblito; other than some consider it magical. It is dirty, there was dog feces on every street, garbage, and no control of the traffic or parking. I doubt that we will ever return to Ajijic but if we do, Hotel Lindo Ajijic will be our first choice. Note: we did meet another couple that told us that the other pueblitos in the area are much nicer, that the original residents did not want to change anything in their pueblito.

Awesome & Modern

We stayed here for 4 nights and 5 days. It's very nice, very modern. I was skeptical about staying at first because they are containers. Yes! Containers! Very modern from the inside. Could have been better of the double beds where queens and not twins. It was a struggle sleeping with 2 kids and 2 adults. And the hot water in the shower took a while to come out. Besides that service was excellent and free breakfast every morning was ideal. Fruit, yogurts and fresh squeezed orange juice. They also have eggs and chilaquiles. Must stay here. My kids also enjoyed the pool. It was quiet those 4 nights.

Casa de la Abuela

The Grandmother, Teresa, originally forms the State of Michoacán. In 1998 she retired from her business and moved to the State of Jalisco. She became enamored with the panoramic views and the quality of the people in Ajijic. She soon purchased a beautiful piece of property and began the process of transforming it into the "Casa de la Abuela" B & B. Michoacán is known for artisans that produce precision works of art from various types of wood. Because of this, she decided to decorate each room with the furniture and artwork which is typical of her home state. Creating beauty here is a continuing pastime, and each habitation is constantly changing and improving.

Beautiful hotel with beautiful hosts

A family run hotel, its small with about 15 rooms. They are large rooms that have either hot tub or kitchen and balconies. They are all different but they are all beautiful. Great pool and lounging area. Close to town, you can walk if you have no issues with your knees and or legs. Hosts are all beyond wonderful and helpful fun and just great people. We have stayed in Ajijic several times but this place got our heart. It is on the mountain side so you can hit the trails up there and get plenty of exercise between walking to town and those mountain trails. Food from town gets delivered up here so if you want to stay Covid safe, order in and enjoy a fine dinner from your balcony.

Beware - Not truthful in advertising NO WIFI in ROOMS

We booked a stay for 2 nights through Orbitz.com and upon check in we realized the pool was not working and was indeed a mosquito breeding pond. OK...I get it, sometimes properties undergo renovations but at least empty out the pool water? The biggest deception, however, was when we entered our room (2 pieces of large luggage, no elevator) and tried to work from our room on our laptops. No wifi. Guy at the from desk said wifi only worked in the common areas (they lie and say it works in the bedrooms but it doesn't) and well we deal with sensitive info/conversations so that was the deal breaker. Front desk guy spoke with the owner, who agreed to refund us all our money but now they are nowhere to be found by Orbitz to issue the full refund.

Relaxing vacation

Reviewed By derekgosail

From start to finish our two week trip to Ajijic and stay at Casa Tres Leones was relaxing. We had opted not to rent a car so our host Emile arranged for a driver to meet us at GDL airport. Emile greeted us when we arrived at 1 a.m. and made sure we were settled in for the evening. We loved waking up to the sound of birds outside our room, the King Garden Suite. The room was a good size, with a comfortable king bed, ensuite bathroom, and changing area with bar fridge. A hot breakfast was served daily in addition to fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, muffins, and several cereals. Casa is on a slope so one can view the town and Lake Chapala from the dinning area in addition to the beautiful garden and swimming pool. We walked about 5 to 6 miles everyday to work up an appetite for dinner at the many restaurants in the surrounding area. We enjoyed all our meals and were pleasantly surprised by the Mexican wines we tried. The Mexican people were a delight, always polite and welcoming. We were fortunate to meet some really nice gringos visiting or living in Ajijic. In addition to our host Emile, the Lake Chapala Society was a good resource for local info. We used their ATM machine and had a few lunches there. Overall, we enjoyed our vacation in Ajijic and stay with Emile at Casa Tres Leones. We look forward to visiting again next winter.

We really enjoyed or stay here. Right off the main plaza but still quiet with only a couple exceptions for a Mexican birthday celebration at midnight. You get the real flavor of Mexico here and spontaneous happenings in the main plaza. Isaac and the staff were terrific. Clean rooms, great location; what more would you want? It even has a community fridge to keep some food or drinks in. We would stay here again.
