Reviewed By Heather MWe just returned from the most wonderful and relaxing vacation at the Grand Velas Rivera Nayarit. Our concierge, Luis, was AMAZING! From the moment we arrived Luis was so helpful and accommodating. When our plans changed unexpectedly, he was able to come through for us as we were scrambling to find a notary nearby. Luis assisted us with all of our reservations, excursions, transportation needs, as well as scheduling our COVID testing -which made it very easy to return to the U.S. Thank YOU Luis! The Grand Velas hotel is private, exclusive, and beautifully appointed throughout the entire facility. The exterior grounds are impeccably clean, and the 3 BDR Family suite is absolutely stunning. The patio with hot tub and view is perfect for evening relaxation as the sun is setting. The infinity pool and beach cabanas are a must do! The beach was our go-to every day for swimming in the warm ocean, and relaxing at the cabana. We enjoyed the flexibility of the Azul buffet for breakfast and lunch, and had some excellent dinners at the specialty restaurant, Sen Lin. The Italian restaurant, Lucca, was our 2nd favorite, but all 4 restaurants are great! Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful tranquility of this beautiful resort. The Grand Velas is worth every penny!

Construction site right next to our room! Lots of noise and a view of a fence net!

We only discovered this in the morning when we opened the doors to find a huge net in front of our balcony with a construction site to the right. If you want to sit outside all you can hear is the sound of construction, not very relaxing all!!! At no time were we advised that a construction site was going on before we were allocated our room by Hardrock Hotel. I spoke to Gabriel in guest services who did not offer an apology and had zero interest in sorting the situation out. After stressing the situation he said come back in 30mins and he will see what he can do! After returning back to see Gabriel he advised that he can get us the same room on the otherside of the hotel but it won't be ready until after 3pm! As we are a family and had fully unpacked the night we arrived we just thought its not worth waisting any more of out time on holiday repacking all of our things, waiting for the room to be ready and then unpacking everything again! The Hotel is nice but the experience we have had is so disappointing, I've made a video of the view and all the noise so I can make people aware of what the will experience in this section of thd hotel they they don't tell you about!

Reviewed By 418jessicarWe booked the Occidental based on its proximity to a wedding 1 of us were attending next door & a budget restraint. The front desk staff was great at check in. All the normal things— provide your passport, get your wrist band, etc… The rooms were decent. They could use some updating but certainly wasn’t the worst place I’ve stayed. The beds were moderately comfortable, the thermostat in the 2 rooms we had were a bit hit or miss. We had to have maintenance come once to restart/fix the air as it wouldn’t cool and the fan wouldn’t run. It got fixed promptly, so no issue. There is 1 main buffet, and 3 a la carte restaurants that require reservations to eat. The concierge doesn’t open in the lobby until 9:30 and you can only make a reservation for the day of- which is different than other resorts I’ve stayed at. This is 1 thing I wish they’d change…. If you go on an excursion or something for the day, you typically leave before the concierge opens so you’re out of luck for reservations for that day because you’re missing the concierge. The buffet food was meh, I’d give it 2.5/5. The omelet station in the AM was great! Of course alllll the fresh fruit which was my fav. They need a pool snack bar type spot like other resorts. The 1 consistent thing at this resort was the staff. Sergio was the main entertainment guy, and he was awesome, so so good at his job. The servers were very accommodating, and always happy to assist or answer questions. Julio at the pool bar ran his ass off all day and remembered everyone’s drinks. They all deserve awesome tips! There are only 2 pools on site- and 1 is for the privilege guests only, including the only hot tub which kind of sucks. There were plenty of activities all day- Zumba, Yoga, Water Aerobics, Water and/or beach volleyball, and of course a show every night. There was a Michael Jackson night, an international show 1 night. These were usually outside but 1 night it was inside. After the show they turned the room into a dance club which was SUPER FUN!! There are plenty of chairs on the beach if you don’t want to be at the pool. All in all, not my fav resort but definitely wouldn’t be deterred to come back if someone picked it!

Reviewed By stricker23Terrible service from front desk managers ( Elsie Amor and Monica Sanchez) do not care about splitting up families. They put our family of 4 in separate buildings. They gave us the wrong key to another room. They gave my 2 sons a king size bed when e specifically told them we needed double beds.. The rooms are outdated unless your room is on the new (1) building. WIFI inside the room does not work. The food selection at the “by reservation only”was terrible. The service at these restaurants was terrible. However, service employees (buffet restaurant, bar and pool area, house keeping) are amazing Buffet restaurant food selection was decent. There is a good coffee shop at the front of the resort that is good. There was a fight between two guests. I definitely do not recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet and nice family vacation.

We loved the place - hated to leave
Reviewed By MikeWinLondonsecond week of March - for us, perfect weather. The hotel is popular with Mexican families on vacation, which for us, added to the value of our Mexican vacation. Lots of cleaning going on here, all the time - our suite and the resort was always near spotless. Staff were terrific, all the time. Right on a beautiful sandy beach, and lots of it. Must eat or do take-out from Eddie's, a well-priced excellent restaurant a short walk away. Catch the high-quality Saturday market also a short walk away, and the much larger Tuesday market using the 25 peso water taxi beside Eddie's. Located in Nuevo Vallarta which adjoins Puerto Vallarta, meaning you take a taxi, uber or city bus from the hotel to PV, which is where most of the tourist action takes place - ask for the Malecon, the downtown beach strip where tourists will get anything and everything they want, as well as the Saturday market downtown, the largest market in the area. Taxis are not expensive, and ubers are somewhat cheaper, but the buses and colectivos are much, much cheaper, as is typical of Mexico. It's a bit of an adventure to figure out the public transportation here, and you'll meet lots of locals whose english is only 'un pocito', but for us it was definitely worthwhile, as we got out a lot. And mucho gracias to Raul at reception who worked through some booking issues to permit us to lengthen our stay in the suite we started out in - 2606, which I highly recommend for its lovely balcony, kitchen and ocean views.

From dining at the restaurants to pool side service. A few to mention are Lamberto, Jorge, Antonio, Wenceslao, Orlando, and Alexis from Lemmon Grass and can't forget my quesadilla lady Angeles.
