Tuam (/ˈtjuːəm/ TEW-əm), Irish: Tuaim ([t̪ˠuəmʲ]) is a town in Ireland and the second-largest settlement in County Galway. It is situated west of the midlands of Ireland, approximately 35 km (22 mi) north of Galway city. Human existence in the area dates to the Bronze Age while the historic period dates from the 6th century. The town became increasingly important in the 11th and 12th centuries in political and religious aspects of Ireland. The market-based layout of the town and square indicates the importance of commerce.

Really nice spot for a walk. Huge variety of different species of trees and animal life on this walk. Best leave it for a sunny day though. Spectacular view from the top. You can see all surrounding towns; Headford, tuam, shrule, Galway and a bit of lough corrib etc. Possibly the highest point in this part of co.Galway and very accessible to both young and old.

An undiscovered gem. It is truely a beautiful building steeped in history. It is not always open but was empty apart from us when we visited. Also home of high cross of Tuam. Hard to find parking close by.

Best pub in Tuam. Friendly staff and regulars. Jukebox, pool table. No frills, just great craic. Go sit at the bar and make a friend.

Historic ruins of the Church of St Benen, dating back to the 5th century. Located three km north of Tuam. This was the once mother church of the Archdiocese of Tuam and older than Tuam itself. Now part of a small local cemetery.

Tuam Golf Club is in great condition and extremely challenging for every level of golfer.Green Fees price wise are the best value around Connacht.Staff are very friendly and accomodating and tend to your every need and the food is also worth a taste.I really enjoyed...MoreMany thanks for your review, as you may know it can be difficult to maintain condition at this time of year but thankfully the weather and hard work has been kind to us. We were in Tuam and stopped to visit the Roman Catholic Cathedral located off of Bishop Street.
It is a large structure built between the the late 1820's and mid-1830's. It is a 14th century gothic style church. I liked the tower and spires reaching for the sky.

The Mass Rock (known in Irish as Clais an Aifrinn) is located close to Sylane National school about 2 miles from Tuam.
This is a beautifully maintained garden with the original Mass Rock fully in tact. The Mass Rock was used by the local Catholic community in the 17th century when mass
was not allowed. There are also ruins of an old church just across the road. This is a wonderful piece of local history beautifully maintained by the local community.
Well worth a visit for anyone interested in local church history.

Little Museum on sharp Street just beside the river nanny. You might need to double check but I think you can only do the tours during the summer. There is also genealogy centre based here if you wish to get some help tracing your roots. With the sound of the running water and the little places to sit in the shaded areas this is a lovely spot to while away a half an hour just listening to the two birds and the river.
