Abbaye Saint Pierre

L'abbaye de Moissac est un haut lieu de l'art roman, classée Monument Historique en 1840 et inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité par l'Unesco en 1998, au titre des chemins de Compostelle. The abbey of Moissac is a masterpiece of Romanesque art, classified at the French Historical Monuments since 1840 and World Heritage by Unesco since 1998 as part of the pilgrimage to Saint-James of Compostela

We visited the cloister on the last day of a week in which we viewed many beautiful examples of Romanesque tympanums and cloisters, in varying degrees of preservation- however they all paled in comparison to what is here in Moissac- the sheer amount of art to be taken in, and its amazing preservation. Do purchase the audio guide and use the legend to study every capital ( both available in English, and includes the church) If you are anywhere nearby, this is definitely worth the detour. It is Art History 101 come to life. We arrived 90 minutes before closing- if you are at all into this period of art and architecture I would allow at least two hours.

Grotte du Bosc

Reviewed By agraham88 - Bristol, United Kingdom

We came for a tour with our two young children in October. Leon, our guide was charming and spoke excellent English. He was patient with our son who asked lots of questions. Highlight for me was seeing the sweetest little bats, and the prehistoric animal bones found in the cave, along with all the rock formations which Leon gave us lots of info about. Definitely recommend visiting!

Place Nationale

Reviewed By bardangas - Athens, Greece

Arcaded enclosure functioning in toto as an organic provider, a gathering place, a l'ocus commercials'. It combines service provisions- shops and cafes with theatrical use labelling of the arcades and decoreated galleries. The heart of the bastide, one of the finest squares in France, a majestic functional open space. Sharing with maternal Toulouse the pink building material which constitutes an earthy unsurpassable building material. It is not the original bastide centre having being actually rebuilt after an 'incendie'. It iss beautiful core of the original bastide functioning as an inverted church space, open uncovered, intimate and a shopping centre.

A good collection of art by Ingres and his contemporaries in a lovely and sympathetically restored monastery. Staff were friendly and went out if their way to help.
