The Satta-toge Pass should have been one of the roughest spot on the Tokai-do in the past. We can see many cyclists and hikers walking along the ancient road, but it looks very tough. At the peak of the Satta-toge, the great view of the Mt. Fuji and Suruga Gulf would be brought to you if the weather could be fine.

We stayed at the Nipphondaira Hotel, and we came across this Terrace while wondering about. It was a cloudy and rainy-like summer, so like in the hotel, no Mt. Fuji in view. However, the architecture itself is beautiful and tranquil in its own way, fitting right into the environment.

Toshogu shrine is thought to be in Nikko, but this is the 1st Toshogu, where the 1st Shogun is buried. This shrine holds annual commemorative ceremony for him on April 7. So, this is the one for rituals for him while Nikko has more gorgeous festivals.

Fantastic view of Mt Fuji from here. It was easy to reach from Shimuzu. Leave the station and head for the bus. It’s all signposted in English and the bus makes announcement in English when you reach the right stop and the signs to Miho no Matsubara are also in English. There’s a visitor centre, toilets and some shops and restaurants. Nice promenade lined with pine trees to walk along or you can walk along the beach.
