Jameos Del Agua

The Jameos del Agua was the Centre of Art, Culture and Tourism to be created by César Manrique and reflects one of the cornerstones of his creative work: harmony between nature and artistic creation. The Jameos del Agua are located inside the volcanic tunnel created by the eruption of La Corona Volcano, one of the longest in the world, at 6 kilometres in length.

Cesar Manrique's works and influence are everywhere in Lanzarote - and this extraordinary place has to be his crowning achievement. You'll need a good hour and a half for all the photos you're going to want to take.
My only disappointment was the museum area - when I came here before several years ago there were some stunning exhibits on view; however, this time I found it almost empty, as it's undergoing renovations. Even though, I thoroughly recommend a visit. Whenever I think of Lanzarote, this is one the first things that Springs to mind.
If you can, try and find an excursion which combines this with a visit to the Cesar Manrique Foundation. You'll have a brilliant day out.

After a week of hustle and bustle in the South of Lanzarote, it was a relief to be hosted by Northdiving in Arrieta. While some other DCs at the island are aiming at quantity, they aim for quality. Detailed briefing, personal approach, taking the time and keen on taking individual requests into account is what makes this diving center worth a visit. The dives sites offered are not too busy, hence more chance to spot marine life. The diving center self is very well organized, spacious and comfortable, with large 'cleaning station' area (although no cleaning shrimps has been reported), place to sit and re-hydrate after the dives and log your dives (with many marine life identification books available). There is also small workshop space, in case you need to repair your gear. All level divers will feel there at the right place and taken care of by hospitable staff. If you never been to the North of Lanzarote and you are hesitating whether its worth it - go and you will not regret (unless you fancy purpose-built tourists resorts with crowds and long lines indeed...). I did 9 dives with them, including one night dive (highly recommended!) and I would do more if I would stay longer. Certainly there will be 'next time' in the future.

A surreal trip around one of Lanzarote's favourite son's house. The furniture remains as if untouched, and there is still a warm, homely feel about the place. His workshop/studio is available to see, and his famous SEAT Ibiza sits outside in prime position.
While here, also make sure to walk around the beautiful, picturesque town of Haría where this hidden gem lies. A real surprise which I stumbled upon, and which I hope you do too!

Jardin de Cactus

Jardín de Cactus was the last intervention work César Manrique performed in Lanzarote. The artist from Lanzarote could see beyond how run down the ancient rofera was. Roferas were the quarries that raids are taken from to create a very particular home for cactaceae flowers from all over he world. Surrounded by the largest cactus plantation of the island, dedicated to crops of cochineal insect, a product of great financial relevance in Lanzarote in the 19th Century. Jardín de Cactus has around 4,500 specimens of 450 different species, of 13 different families of cactus from the five continents. The green shade of the plants stands out against the blue sky and the dark volcano creating a harmonious explosion of colour that impresses visitors. The only sounds that break the peace and quiet that prevails, are singing birds and boozing insects, enjoying their very own oasis.

An enormous variety of cacti, beautiful to see. Some weird ones I had never seen before. There's a nice little restaurant there as well, and a little windmill you can check out inside. A nice place to visit.

Start the path from number 36 on the main road in Ye adnd enjoy an easy climb till nearly the end through vineyards and Gardens. You can choose how high to climb according to experience of clambering across volcanic rock and vegetation, although even beginners can make it up as high as the crater to enjoy views across the entire north side of the island, with a late afternoon trip particularly worthwhile as the sun bathes the entire landscape in gold.
