Reserva Natural Nirvana

Reviewed By Dan D - Deer Park, New York

My family traveled to Colombia last summer to visit family and this was one spot my father in law couldn't wait to take us to. We loved the setting and the nature walk, albeit little tough, was a welcomed walk through Colombia's country side. We saw natural fauna, animals and ate some of the most amazing Colombian dishes. This restaurant was outside overlooking beautiful countryside. The owners were on site and sat with our family and chatted the whole time about the property and Colombia in general
My kids loved the homemade ices that they sold here. I think each one had 2 or 3 of them. My youngest one had fun playing in the little playground area they had as well. Coming from the U.S. it was nice for them to see what it is like to be a child in another country.

Museo Aereo Fenix

It is the only civil aviation and railroad museum in Colombia. See 27 full size aircraft and 4 locomotives, two model airports and two giant working model railroad layouts. More than 3500 models, many in realistic dioramas and the largest collection of airline flatware. There is also a collection of 30 uniforms and flying suits, both military and civilian.

Great museum by the airport in Cali exhibiting an amazing collection of not only airplanes and airport related machines but also other means of transportation and models of city airports and trains. My kids (5 & 7) had a marvelous morning

Hacienda El Paraiso

A short distance away from Palmira sits Hacienda El Paraiso, a beautifully maintained house and picturesque garden heaving with roses. Formerly owned by famous author Jorge Isaacs, whose love story book "Maria" has been turned into a movie. This place is clearly beloved by locals, and indeed many travel from more distant cities on coach tours. If you aren't in for crowds, go early in the morning. The tours and all information printed and otherwise was in Spanish, which was unfortunate for me since I don't speak a word of it! That said, I greatly appreciated the beauty and grasped the romance that hung in the air of this place. I can only imagine how much more I would have enjoyed had I spoken Spanish, read the book or seen the movie. All these things are on my list to do ASAP! I understand that the tour guide did drone on a bit too long in some spots, but we slipped easily around the groups to explore at our own pace. I wish there had been a few more benches to sit at, as the house was designed well enough to afford a nice cooling breeze, but visitors were not permitted to sit on the porch benches. We sampled a few sweet wines and candies at the small shop below; and then made our way over to the gazebos outside the Gardens for some refreshing traditional drinks. There is a small cafe, very small with mostly drinks and ice creams at the back of the house, and of course bathrooms. Lots of photo opportunities with pretty backdrops. I would visit again, this time armed with some Spanish to enjoy all over again.

Nice landscaping and variety of shops. Large 2 story Catrove that Carey's some things you might not find elsewhere in Palmira. Very crowded over the holidays (more so than other malls). Only complaint is that the women's toilets are for squatting not sitting.

Very convenient, large enough but not too large. We have gone a number of times and have always found it clean and safe. The bathrooms are nice and toilets have rings and toilet paper.
Eating area features some artificial turf to sit on, the second floor usually has a breeze & they have mister throughout the mall for those really warm days.

Estadio Deportivo Cali

Reviewed By Dan D - Deer Park, New York

My father-in-law couldn't wait to take us to a professional soccer game, especially of his favorite team, Deportivo Cali. Coming from the U.S. where soccer is not that big of a sport it was a great experience to see the dedicated fans and to feel the atmosphere. It was nice to see people at a game, not for the luxury of their seats or food, but rather for the game itself. That is true passion. We sat on concrete benches and cheered from 30 minutes before the game until after the final whistle blew. It was quite the experience for my family. I would highly recommend it for anyone traveling to the Cali area.

I recommend taking a day trip to the Sugar Cane Museum near Palmira. About 45 minutes northeast from from Cali. The hour long tour fits in well with a trip to nearby Buga and the Isaacs Hacienda. The Museum tour is in Spanish so you may need a translator if you struggle with Spanish. But, you can appreciate the historical progression of sugar cane mills over the centuries, as well as the natural botanical Gardens.

Plaza de Bolivar

Lots of activity and fun but personally would only feel safe during daylight hours. Enjoyed the horse drawn carriage ride but the over crowded streets detracted. One of the main cathedrals appears quite delapitated and appears to closed long term. The other is very nice but locked during the day. Many shops/ street vendors with great variety but not many artisan type of shops. Disappointed that the square smelled strongly of urine and many homeless & beggers.
