I rented a small jeep which was perfect for visiting the park.Some fabulous sunsets on Mt Sajama. The hot Springs were delightful and the geysers whilst not startling were great for a photo shoot of all the brilliant colours.Abandoned churches and homes and llamas everywhere was a photographers dream .

Carnaval here is not merely a tourist attraction. It is listed with UNESCO's Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, since it dates back over 200 years. Originally, an indigenous celebration, it now incorporates Christian themes as well.
Carnaval starts around 10am on Saturday and continues until 7 or 8pm, but then it starts again on Sunday morning, continuing to the evening. It is exhausting, exhilarating, and more eye candy than you can ever imagine. The costumes are incredible from top to bottom. The dances range over 18 different folk styles.
Be prepared to spend a wad of cash, because everything is jacked up for this weekend. Our seats cost us 1,200 Bolivian and these were not the best.

Don't get your hopes up too much, it's not the biggest, it's not the most spectacular.... but it certainly is very beautiful!
The roof painting is amazing (a kind of blue sky with stars), the paintings on the walls are very interesting: mixture of catholic and Andean elements. It's built a little bit above the city so you have a modest view of the altiplano and Oruro centre, although the recent craze in building high can still ruin your vista.
It's build upon an old mine tunnel and you can visit a nice small mine museum with the entrance inside the church.

El mejor mirador sobre la ciudad y los alrededores. Tiene una carretera de acceso pero también se puede llegar a pie: desde la Esquina de las calles Murguía y Petot se divisan claramente las escaleras que conducen a la cima, en una subida dura por la pendiente y la altura de la ciudad.
La escultura de la Virgen es imponente y se puede acceder al interior.
El espacio tiene bancos y baños.
Actualmente se está construyendo un teleférico de acceso al mirador.
Hay que tener cuidado con los perros callejeros, algunos de ellos agresivos.

Oruro , more than just a carnival!!
Hello, I’m Martin, this month I’ve come to Bolivia , especially to Oruro . Yesterday I was walking looking for tourist information, and you know what?. I found it, thanks to an informants group from “Tourist Information HERE”. They gave me the best reference for tourism places in Oruro and in Bolivia . They helped me to plan my next trips around Bolivia . The best of all is that they are recommended for TRIPADVISOR.COM.
I discovered that Oruro it’s not just about the Magical Carnival, but it is much more than that. After an exchange of information, maps, times and distances; I discovered that: Oruro has the biggest second salt lake of the world, which is “KOIPASA”. It also counts with the best archeological complex found in the Alcaya community known for the French as the “little Machu Picchu of the High Lands”. This place shelters a stadium size meteor crater. It also counts with polychromatic funerary constructions in Sacabaya, Macaya and Julo called Lauca River Ecotourism. It has enigmatic landscapes in the Sajama National Park , which counts with llama heads carved in stone a long time ago. Its pottery has the most beautiful iconographic high lands decoration .
Well I hope that with these facts you can also discover the wonders of Oruro .
Later I will tell you how do I get to Uyuni, because these informers have an office there, so I feel relax and safe, because I ‘m sure I’ll find them.

The entrance of this museum was very original! But it wasn't immediately clear where we had to buy tickets and so we had to wait for one and a half hour before our tour started. (While another tour started earlier and we already had waited half an hour on that tour). It was cool to be in a real miners tunnel, but the information was minimal and if you don't speak Spanish there is no information at all. The tour was a bit shorter then we expected, just half an hour. But it was nice.

It's a pretty place - I like the contrast it highlights between nature with the trees it has and the city surrounding it. However, it's not all that special. It's located pretty centrally, so you'll more than likely pass it, but no need to stay for long.

Taken as purely a means of transportation, this train loses to an intercity bus. A train journey took 15 hours. A bus makes the trip in a bit more than five. Seating on a bus is luxurious with plenty of legroom. While seats on the train look quite promising, they are not comfortable at all. I developed a back ache five hours into the journey and suffered miserably until the end. In addition, for a man my size (XXL), legroom was a bit scarce. On-board toilet was a blessing. Throughout the journey attendants kept it in an immaculate condition. Here is a significant advantage over buses that make a single pit-stop on an overnight run.
The one unique reward offered by the train is the amazing scenery. The dull and boring portion of the journey across the altiplano is completed during the night, and by sunrise the tracks start descending through a maze of Canyons. The vistas are truly breathtaking. There are volcanoes as a backdrop, abysmal gorges right below the tracks and exciting wild-west type rock formations later on the way. And there is no other way of seeing it all than by train. For me it was definitely worth the suffering. But I went back by bus. The trip took place in 2013.

Other than the relatively unique appearance from the outside, the Cathedral doesn't have much to offer. It looks interesting, but doesn't stand out from all the other cathedrals in South America.
