Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings

The tallest building in Shinjuku, TMG No. 1 offers sweeping views of Tokyo -- all the way to Mt. Fuji on a clear day -- from the 45th floor observatory.

Reviewed By kc3302 - Riverwood, Australia

Fantastic views of the Tokyo City and suburbs. Free entry. There are two observation towers - one in each of the building's two towers. It is located above Tochomae Station (on the Toei Oedo line), or is a comfortable 10 minute walk from Shinjuku Station (all other train lines including JR, Keio, Seibu, Odakyu and other subway lines).

Omoide Yokocho

Reviewed By matthenry9 - London, United Kingdom

I had a lovely time wandering through these couple of alleys, before sitting in one of the tiny restaurants for some yakitori- I had beef & also a bunch of veggies wrapped in bacon! Delicious. Some of the restaurants (which are all pretty tiny) have second floors, so dont assume they're all full. Like most bars/restaurants around Tokyo, all have a cover fee ranging from ¥300-1000.

Shinjuku Chuo Park

Reviewed By Larry-Calif - San Francisco, United States

From my Hyatt Regency hotel room on the 22nd floor overlooking Chou Park, I can see a flurry of activities at 6:00 AM in the morning. There was folks doing stretching exercises, bystanders copying the exercise, workers heading for their offices and stores, tourists eating their early morning take-out breakfast, and folks walking their dogs. After observing for several mornings, I visited the park and found it a delightful and wonderful park in the middle of the business district. Tennis courts and fields for the athletic players, amphitheater for the audience, lunch spot for the nearby office workers, easy walking paths for the elderly, playground for kids, wading pool for toddlers, and benches everywhere for the many tourists to enjoy a few moments in the park surrounded by an abundance of greenery. The park is very clean and well kept. I enjoyed the fresh morning air, the quiet atmosphere, the meditative mood, and the relaxing walk at the WONDERFUL PARK... at Shinjuku Chou Park.

Kumano Shrine

Reviewed By GeorgiaHerring - LaGrangeville, United States

We found this shrine accidentally while walking around the park. As we strolled on the western part of the park, we saw a Shinto wedding and watched the ceremony. There are many local residents using the shrine to offer daily prayers as well as an information booth with Shinto priests to answer your questions. I would recommend a visit after viewing the observatory at the Tokyo Met Building. After visiting many larger shrines in Tokyo, this one is the most authentic and historic (dating back to the 1400s) that we saw.

Odakyu Department Store, Shinjuku

This huge department store is conveniently connected to major transit point Shinjuku Station and offers a range of shops, from high-end clothing to a huge food selection in the basement.

Reviewed By Natesmith1016 - Berkley, United States

As the headline says, you can pretty much find anything you could ever want in Odakyu. From clothing to alcohol and tech in Bic Camera to Tokyo 2020 gear(the official store is inside), there's something for everyone. Some really nice restaurants and cafes in there too. Not very touristy, it's where the locals go.
