Mulranny (Irish: an Mhala Raithní, meaning "the hill-brow of the ferns")—sometimes spelled as 'Malaranny', 'Mullaranny', 'Mullranny' or 'Mulranny'—is a seaside village on the isthmus between Clew Bay and Blacksod Bay in County Mayo, Ireland. Mulranny is the home of colourful giant Fuchsias, Ferns and exotic plants. This plant life is celebrated each summer during the Mulranny Mediterranean Heather Festival. Mulranny has been cited as a possible source of the ancient Gallowglass MacNevin family, who originally emigrated to Scotland in the mid 10th Century. The Nevin Coat of Arms has a Fern as a main symbol.

Fantastic beach here particularly if you like to stretch your legs . The scenery is stunning and there also a little boardwalk . If you fancy a game of golf then the links is right on the beach - stunning . Highly recommend a visit and stop off at the hotel for a Sandwich - stunning views.

My first time trekking at this stables left a memorable impression. From the moment of arrival you are thoroughly looked after by Kitty and her amazing team. As an experienced rider, I was more than impressed with how this trek was organised. The horses were well suited to all rider levels. Clear, concise instructions given by the lovely Helena and Laoise. There was 4 employees on the trek with us; this ensured each customer was well looked after and taken care of. As there was enough staff to mind the trek, Helena was able to take some riders for some spectacular gallops through the sea and fields. The trek took place around clew bay, and as a local, I was well impressed with helena and Laoise's knowledge of the local area. All round great experience, and am eager to get back for more.

Having not cycled for a long time we hired bikes for our short stay in Mayo. A great way to see the countryside without the worries of cars or other vehicles. We cycled from Westport to Achill. Would definitely do it again

Rented from this company stationed at the Park Inn Mulranny. Bikes and equipment were decent and staff was adequate for the service provided. Other bike companies I rented from in the area seemed to have slightly better equipment and the staff seemed more knowledgeable.....see my other reviews.

Darragh and Martin were wonderful, and even though it was early in the season, we were able to catch some Dogfish and crabs. The scenery in Clew Bay is beautiful, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! It was a perfect activity for our family of four, and gave us the opportunity to see the area from a different perspective.

I have travelled to Mayo many times over the years, and have ended up around here regularly, we have something similar in Dublin, but nowhere near as attractive, definitely don't have sheep running around on it either, or such a beautiful vista of the village looking down from the hill, but also the sleepy looking Mountains across Clew bay called the Nephin Beg Mountains of which the biggest is the famous pilgrimage, Croagh Patrick.
Give it a go if you are down in this neck of the woods, lots of beauty around here, and this is just one small but lovely slice!

We stayed in Westport, but the hotel staff recommended to drive to Newport to rent bikes as it's better scenery and mostly off the road from there.
It's a nice rugged terrain with some lovely scenery. Wouldn't be as good quality as the Waterford Greenway, but it is well worth doing.

Books range from early children`s to wonderfully illustrated to finely bound antiquarian all subjects incl Irish, Antiques from fishing items to copper brass to fine Irish & English silver to porcelain & Irish glass, antique furniture. Please phone before traveling as we often have to down tools to go buying! DONT MISS IT THERE REALLY IS NO WERE ELSE LIKE IT IN Ireland!

If you're visiting Louisburgh, or even passing through, don't miss Books@one, near the bridge over the Bunowen river on the Main Street, just after The Country Kitchen, on the right hand side.
Books@one has great new and secondhand books, and has a special section for children, with story telling and book readings. They promote local authors and will soon be printing books and cards. Bright modern interior. Very friendly and helpful. The perfect place to spend a happy hour or two on one of Mayo's many wet days. You can donate your old books too.

It is grand to drive at leisurely pace from Newport to Mulranny, to meander down the many lanes to the left and discover treasures.. Coming in sight of this castle keep/watchtower was sheerly magical. A wild place, sea and seaweed and a watchful heron. Leave the car and wander along the shore... This has not changed in centuries. A stability and a continuity.

Visited the excellent Westport Town Hall Theatre recently with my mum and sisters to see comedian Neil Delamare. The show was brilliant, we laughed from start to finish, as was the venue. It's a great facility for Westport. Very comfortable seats, good layout, everyone had a great view, modern design and really friendly helpful staff. A fantastic nighty out!
