This is a beautiful place for sitting back and pondering about the wider world, set among maples and other trees, with an immaculate internal garden and an approach through a series of stone steps that open to a well groomed courtyard. Away from the tourist trail but well worth a visit!

There is a BBQ facility and a restaurant in the main area with food, and kids playing slides which looks like fun. The hiking treks are pretty serious, a few hours at least, and a small hike up a mountain (Mt. Ontake?) with great views, photos of which I attach!

Great choice of local food including fresh fruit and veges, along with cheap restaurant and some interesting local exhibits in the museum. Located along the historically interesting Nakasendo trail that runs through town.
