This is fascinating historically.Le Donjon was built in approximately 1100 and it dominates Loches and if you have the energy you can climb it.Then there are the prison cells the most interesting of which is that of Ludovico Sforza who was imprisoned for 11 years and supposedly died on his release.Amazing and not just for historians.

On a slightly rainy day in late July I was surprised at so few tourists. Largely had the Chateau to ourselves which was a stark contrast to Chenonceaux the following day.
Managed to park right at the top and enjoyed wandering this wonderfully preserved medieaval area.
The Royal city dominates the town and lovely views, artisan shops and good restaurants abound. Even the restaurant nearest the Chateau was good value.

Maison Lansyer

Reviewed By RichardinOhio - Williamsburg, Virginia

Mr. Lansyer was an architect/artist in the mid 19th Century. Most of the work in this house is his, but he was an accomplished landscape painter. The collection includes a few works by other artists. It is a free museum within the walls of the castle. It is on two floors of the house where his mother lived and can be seen in under an hour. It is certainly worth a visit.

Loches Tourist Office

Reviewed By Alexandra T - Murrieta, California

We were visiting family near Loches and stopped into the tourist office to find out things to do around the area. There are so many chateaus and parks to visit we wanted to get an idea of which ones were best. I found so much information on everything in the area as well as things to purchase as a memento of our trip. The information was free and the souvenirs were reasonably priced. Since it is in an old building, there was not very much space to park. But most of Loches is easily walkable.

Sleepy town, villagers not too sure what you are doing there, wonderful farmer's market a few steps from the hotel, a cinema with one film showing a couple of nights a week once at 4pm and then again at 9pm, lovely center of town with petanque players--could be a bit more commercial.

La Chancellerie de Loches

Reviewed By MarceluitAlmere - Almere, The Netherlands

Magnificent 15th century house.
Nice to visit and to get to know the city (and his history) of Loches a bit better.
Googling a bit gave me a picture by James Whistler, the famous painter, who painted the house. I bet the people from "La Chancellerie" don't even know this.
A copy of the painting of the Louvre of the chancellor Antoine de Bueil can also be found.
