Catedral de La Rioja - Santuario de San Nicolas de Bari

Reviewed By RMartinSDXB - Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Another magnificent Cathedral in front of the main square of a Province. Every town in the countryside of Argentina has the same urban planning. In this case, La Rioja Cathedral worships Saint Nicholas of Bari with lots of unique decorations and a small religious display of artifacts.
The church is open most the day with no restrictions and if you have the chance you can heard either the hourly bells. Just a few minutes would be enough to appreciate the architecture and the peace of the place.

Resarva Provincial Laguna Brava

Reviewed By Silvano G - Turin, Italy

Reviewed By E T - Quito, Ecuador

In the route to Sanagasta, close to La Rioja city (30 min by car) is this relatively new place (first open two years ago). There were found several dinosaur's eggs and then fossils appeared, so a nice history about Argentineans dinosaurs. Those are particular species that do not match with the classical ones seen at the movies. There are two guided cycles were you can enjoy not only the beautiful environment, also nice and in deep explanations by local guides. There is an entrance free (aprox 2 USD) and each tour between 4-6 USD. It is a nice walk but be prepare with appropriate shoes and at this season do not forget your jacket!

Monumento Chacho Penaloza

Reviewed By Silvano G - Turin, Italy

This small museum its located in the middle of the old city and its well renovated. It offers a lot of small details and history facts about the city with some very well restore items of the past.
The tour its small but the people its friendly and the place has an interesting vibe within a city that, surprisingly, has a lot to offer. Something different to see.

Museo Folklorico

We drove 5km from our Cabanas Los Margaritas to park(40 Ap/hour) near the main plaza. After visiting the basilica, we walked 4 blocks northeast to this museum. A Spanish speaking lady came out to explain the circulation of the exhibits as we decided on a self tour.
We stepped back in time, going from room to room; one with a hand loom and its output of ponchos, blanket and woven containers, a kitchen with oven, wares and a set table, a room of field tools and gaucho outfits, one with musical instruments and a couple with artisanal crafts. A very authentic and valuable display of historical interest.
