I had an oil shop visit and olive groove tour here with a group of 13 Americans. We loved the surroundings, and all products we tried, including several varieties of oil, accompanied with delicious snacks, local wine and chocolate. Paul took us on the tour through Sta. Margherita groove. It was professional and interesting, discovering many facts about olives and all the process and hard work that stays behind the perfect drop of oil. I would suggest to everyone interesting in delicious oil to make also the groove tour, as this brings you to a new level of experience, realizing how personal this is, every olive has been hand-picked and taken care of on the top level possible!

Chiavalon Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

There is no point in counting numerous awards Chiavalon oils got either for their packaging design or, what’s more important, for the quality of their olive oils. Sandi Chiavalon, one of the youngest and, we can freely say, most progressive and energetic Istrian olive makers, started following his dreams while he was practically in high school. His vision was to use the latest technology in order to get the best from olive trees his family traditionally grew. Since then, he planted numerous trees, and has been recognized as one of the best olive oil producers in Istria. His olive oils were among the first Croatian ones to enter the prestigious Flos Olei olive oil guide, and also, the first one available worldwide. Recently Chiavalon was listed among the TOP 25 producers in the World by the organization World best olive oils. If you’re around Vodnjan, be sure not to miss Chiavalon’s wonderfully designed tasting room. For the complete tour of the farm pls book in advance.

We were on a cruise and as part of one of our day trips we were able to visit this smaller family run olive oil farm in Croatia. We were not expecting to leave with such valuable knowledge of how to judge good olive oil when we return home. The facilities tasting room is decorated very nicely and each seat is laid out with nice China and a snifter of olive oil. Time is spent explaining what to look for in a good oil, what is should small and taste like, and most importantly, how to taste it! Who knew! I caught myself on the rest of the trip at restaurants in Venice and Florence evaluating the oils :-) I plan on ordering some from their supplier in the United States. It turned out to be a real highlight. Thank you!

...because of the ancient stone work, this charming Old Town is 10 degrees F hotter than any place within a mile away. Cobblestones have been tread upon for centuries which gives you an opportunity to slip and fall down on the steep, slippery streets. Caution.

Punta Corrente

Golden Cape (Zlatni rt/Punta corrente), Kurent Bay and Montauro Cape are located around 1.5 km away from the town-center, south of the ACI Marina and Lone Bay.The coast is mostly rocky. There are a few Beaches covered with small round stones, and Kurent Bay, the most visited beach in this area, covered with gravel. Kurent Cape is on the eastern side (see map). The Beaches are rocky and the access to the sea is not easy. At Kurent Cape you will also find a pier where you can temporarily tie your boat and there is also a small gravel-covered bay.

Trails are very nice although so crowded in the afternoon that biking is a challenge. I would recommend going early or late in the day if you want to bike or run for exercise. There are "beaches" (large pebbles/rocks) where you need to pay for lounge chairs; some places are 100kn PER chair while others were 35kn. The expensive place - Mullini Beach - had no additional facilities - no one was serving drinks and there was no where to refill a water bottle or go to the bathroom, so you are really better off bringing a picnic and something to lie on and finding a free spot.

Groznjan Hilltop village of artists, Istria, Croatia

Reviewed By Moleseyboy - London, United Kingdom

For a wander through a beautiful authentic hill-top village, we loved Groznjan. It is set atop a hill not far from Novograd and Motovun. On the day we visited, they were practising opera in a room opening out onto one of the many small squares. It was a sublime experience to stand and listen to the arias being rehearsed accompanied by a grand piano and exquisitely rendered. I could have stayed all day to listen, but our kids quickly lost interest so we moved on. They have urged me to score down the rating as there is not much of excitement for younger children, but for me it was a high spot of our time in Istria.

This is our 4th time at the Aqua Park, been going to this park every summer since it opened.
A great day with the kids , the slides are excellent , our boys did them all. Our family favorite is the "Crazy Hills". The kids always want to beat us to the bottom !
There plenty of space to have lunch , we bring our own sandwiches and drinks. However we always buy drinks there as well.
Do no miss the music band that goes into the wave pool .. excellent time!
We always go there on the Saturday's as there seems to be less crowd on that day.

This town is in Istria, an easy drive from Rovijn. It sits atop a mountain and has a medieval wall that surrounds it. The area has olive groves and vineyards that look so pretty. We enjoyed having lunch with a beautiful view of the land. Be sure to walk the walls and climb the church tower. It is a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon.
