Me and my partner were picked up from Reykjavik on time by Andres and on our way to their office were given brief historical overview of the area that we passed. After a receiving a prepared packed lunch we visited Skógafoss, we had however took a detour to visit a nearby waterfall (I forget the name). At the first waterfall there were many tourists there who had arrived on big tourist buses, the tourists were sliding absolutely everywhere! Didn't look safe at all. Andres however had put Clampons on our feet and we overtook many of the tourists making them very envious of the fact we could walk without concern for slipping. Andres was very considerate having stopping at scenic places so that we could take photos - there were many things that day that a typical tourist company would not do. we stayed with Icelandic activities for 3 days having Snow Shoed, chilled out in a hot spring...very hot spring and had also went caving and cooked a leg of lamb that had been cooked in the ground- again all these trips were excellently prepared for with great consideration towards making sure that me and my partner were well prepared for the cold with all the appropriate equipment. The staff were all local knowing the area incredibly well and will gave options to consider if the weather is poor - can't highly recommend enough

While our friends spent our last morning in Iceland sleeping in, we decided to get up early and hike to Reykjadalur at sunrise. The hike is around 2 miles (almost entirely uphill), but it’s so worth it when you finally get there. I highly recommend hitting the trail at daybreak. My wife and I were the only people in the hot Springs the entire hour we were there. Clothing was optional, which is always nice! It does get busier though, as we saw many hikers along the trail on the way back!

We hiked up to the hot river in windy and wet weather, getting there and taking off your wet stuff gets compensated by the lukewarm river, but putting your wet stuff back on in a howling wind is more like torture... But can totally see the prettiness of this on a clear day!

Wow, this place... if you want something unique and one of a kind, the look no further. We actually found this by accident, as our car had somehow gotten a dry rotted tire that'd exploded on the way from Selfoss to Reykjavik.
After fixing the tire, we realized that we only had a quarter tank left. So we pulled into a gas station that you had to pay inside. Having some trouble, the owner followed us outside, and looked at our tank, to which he turned us away and told us that we had just enough to reach a different gas station a ways a way, (still don't know why he did that) and upon reaching it, I really, really had to pee, (apparently drinking lots of water and driving for over an hour is a bad thing.)
So upon pulling in, I quickly jumped out, and ran in. To which our group got out and stumbled upon this glorious place. It's family owned, everything is both hand made, and found, and the best part? It won't cost you an arm and a leg!
The man in the shop was super nice, didn't try to over sell anything, and patiently explained what many of the Celtic symbols were that they carved into different pieces of wood they sold.
If we ever come back to Iceland, our group will definitely make a pit stop here again.

Stopped here on Nicetravel tour. Our entry fee was included. Stunning colour of the frozen crater lake with the red rocks around it looked like a giant geode. Had the weather been better it would have been fascinating to walk around the crater rim or right down to the lake.
It was so windy and with no fence we stood well back!

My husband and I visited the geothermal exhibition in July 2016. It was highly informative and gave us an insight into the geothermal energy usage that Iceland is famous for. After nearly 3 weeks of witnessing all the geothermal activities and soaking in hot Springs around Iceland, the geothermal exhibition gave us a better understanding of Iceland's major source of energy. It was a wonderful wrap up of our 20 day tour of Iceland.

We went on a 2 hour ride with Eldhestar as part of a combination horses and glacier tour with Icelandic Mountain Guides. The tour was booked through Eldhestar. Overall, a wonderful experience. The location of the farm and hotel is incredible, beautiful scenery, close to the main road so impossible to avoid seeing and hearing traffic going by, but still had a feeling of being very close to nature. I wanted to avoid some of the stables that were extremely close to town that seemed to have more of a suburban feel and this was a fantastic location. You go through a river basically on a large loop. The horses were well trained trail horses, the guides were pleasant and attentive. We were able to walk around the stable and paddocks, also it was cool that at the end of the ride they had us remove our own horse's saddle, which was a fun skill to experience. A downside would be the very large group of riders of different abilities. One of the reviewers complained of too much tolting. In our group, we were instructed to start going faster and how to draw the tolt out of the horse. However, the inexperienced riders up front would never get going and this led to some degree of frustration because we were encouraged to stay in single file. Eventually, through a combination of passing some slow people/horses, holding back a bit to open up some space in front of me, and finding other horse groups that wanted to keep up a nice pace, I was able to get in a nice feel for the tolting gait. Use of cameras/phones was forbidden but they did set up a photo opportunity for our family that resulted in probably the most epic horseback riding photo we have ever been a part of. Truly magnificent! In the end, I was really happy with the entire experience, including the relative amount of walking and tolting. If we ever return, I would definitely consider doing a multiday excursion with Eldhestar. Since we were staying at an airbnb just outside of town, we chose to drive ourselves to avoid some of the confusing pick-up mishaps I had seen in other reviews (not necessarily of Eldhestar) since they give you hotels and landmarks mostly within the city as pick up points. We had lunch included, which was a nice soup and Sandwich buffet. The transfer to the glacier hike was well coordinated, as I had forgotten to request to be picked up by Eldhestar by the mountain guide. Eldhestar made the call for us and we were picked up there and dropped off after the glacier hike, then driving ourselves back to Reykjavik. The drive is not short to the glacier, and the glacier guide gave us a lot of great information along the way there and back, including a few stops. I highly recommend the combination tour. I booked through Eldhestar but I believe it would be the same if booked through Icelandic Mountain Guides.

On our 7 day drive yourself visit through Iceland we reserved an excursion into the lava tube cave. We were given hard hats with headlamps and walked out to stairs that brought us down into the cave. The walk lasts around 45 minutes and the guide stops to explain some geological formations and how the lava tube was made. Well organized and the guide was knowledgeable but the cave itself was a little underwhelming with no stalactites or stalagmites or cave domes.
Between this and the ice cave excursion at the glacier I would do the lava cave (unless you’ve never seen ice or snow)
