East Mount Barren

Reviewed By mjail5

It was pouring when we arrived at East Mount Barren. Glad that it was one of those days when you had lots of sunshine in between the heavy bouts of rain. The signboard stated that it will take 2-3 hours to the summit that we decided against climbing it as we still wanted to stop by all the other areas of interest with our final destination at Hamersley Inlet. Just by walking to the end of the boardwalk, we experienced a splendid array of flora and absolutely stunning views of the ocean. I can't imagine how spectacular the view must be from the summit. Would love to come back here and see what I have missed out ! Because we did not do this hike, our most memorable part of the Fitzgerald National Park is Barren's Lookout.

Barrens Beach

Stunning small beach. Calm water, good for children and great for snorkelling close to the rocks. Depending on the day you can have the beach only for yourself. The pathway from the car park has toilets and benches with shed. Loved this place.

Hakea Trail

Reviewed By RosieJ449 - Fremantle, Australia

Fitzgerald River National Park is a biodiversity hotspot in SW WA. The Hakea Trail is 23km one way (46km return) from Cave Point to Quoin Head ( or a shorter option is from Hamersley Inlet to Quoin Head and back). There is a hut at Whalebone Beach with toilet and veranda and sleeping area (though no doors) with extra camping sites. The walk is well marked and follows the fantastic coastline mostly on firm track with occasional beach stretches. Migrating whales and superb wildflowers can also be seen at the right time of year. One of the best walks in Australia. Not too hilly, and easy to follow. Highly recommended.

Barrens Lookout

Reviewed By mjail5

This was the best spot to view the flora in the Fitzgerald River National Park ! It was just a short loop trail but it was filled with never ending flowering shrubs/trees and beautiful unusual flowers such as the purple enamel orchid and the qualup bell which is unique to the shire of Ravensthorpe. The views here are simply breathtaking too. From Barrens Lookout, you can see both Culham Inlet and the Southern Ocean where they are distinct from each other. Barrens Lookout was just so spectacular that on our way back to Hopetoun, we could not resist stopping again to take in the views. This time from the comfort of our car.

Cave Point

Reviewed By mjail5

Short scenic 600m return walk on a very good pathway that is suitable for everyone. Quite a variety of flora along the pathway before you reach the lookout point. Views to the cliff is unobstructed but to the cave is partly blocked. Would have been perfect if the lookout was protruding outwards in the middle. There is another trail walk that starts at Cave Point - the 23.4km Hakea Trail to Quoin Head heading towards West Beach first that is 300m away. Toilets are available here.
