Asuwayama Park

Reviewed By KlapauciusJapan

Roads connect various areas on Asuwayama, making an interesting park near Fukui station. The park is walkable, though all paths are roads so sometimes need to avoid cars. The main attraction is the zoo, which is free to enter, though closed during winter. Tripadvisor still shows it at the incorrect location.

Life size dinosaur models in a landscaped area. The models move and roar. Short descriptions in English so that you know what is being interpreted by the display. Worth a look if you are near the station and a good photo opportunity.

Fukui Castle Ruins

Reviewed By KlapauciusJapan

Worth a visit for what you can see of the history of Fukui - despite much of it being erased by building the Fukui Prefectural government offices where the castle used to be. The views around the moat and old wall are very nice, especially when the weather is good, or the cherry blossoms are out. You can walk around the ruins, go up on the walls for some different views, and find some historically significant things such as the 'Fukui no i', a well which apparently became the name of the city and prefecture, Fukui.
