10 Things to Do in Formentera That You Shouldn't Miss

February 17, 2018 Timmy Ribble

You may have to fly into Ibiza's airport to get to Formentera, but a vacation here is the antithesis of a wild week in Ibiza. You'll reach Formentera by ferry, and you'll find a quiet, peaceful little island with natural beauty to spare. Rent a scooter or bike to take you from beach to beach.

Decided to spend the day at the 1st beach.Just stunning is the only way to describe this place.has to be seen to be believed.
Transport, cars and scooters are all available and worthwhile to see more of the island.

We took the Bahia boat from Ses illetes. We bought the return ticket at the restaurant Es Ministre. It costs 22.50Euro which is really expensive for 7 minutes boat ride. Nevertheless I did not regret it because the beach in Espalmador is probably the best I've been here in Formentera.
The boat leaves at 10h15, 11h45 and 13h15 from La Savina and stops at Ses Illetes after 10 minutes.
It returns from Espalmador at 16h15 17h30 and 18h45.

Calo Des Mort

While the entire beach is fantastic, as are most Beaches of Formentera, me and a friend went towards the left along the beach to a point where there is a small hidden beach bellow. Absolutely gorgeous, easily among the best Beaches I have ever been to and easily the beach with the clearest and cleanest water I have ever been to. You wouldn't believe it.
While the main beach will normally have a decent amount of people as there is a hotel in front of it, trust me and head to the left of the beach until you reach this small little secret (not really) spot that would be easy to miss. Although I saw some reviews say there is no nudity, perhaps not full nudity because of the hotel, there certainly were many many women topless. At this spot there is a little beach and some rocks where you can put your towel and things down and take a dive in the absolutely perfect temperature water. Truly wish I had gone more but I came here the day before my last day on the island. I will guaranteed return at some point. As it is small it feels more intimate and personal and I loved it, it was like a little oasis hidden from the world almost.

Expensive to enter and very very not. There is no shade really in this area. If you are going remember your umbrella if you are going on the beach!

We bought the option to visit both LLevant and Pujols beach but end up regretting not staying the entire day on the this one. Just gorgeous.

Es Cap de Barbaria Lighthouse

The lighthouse itself is worth the visit, but the most spectacular is a cave next to it, quite discrete and low profile. With a wooden stair to get inside, it gives access to a hole with opening to the cliff. There is nothing spectacular about the cave, but there is a feeling of magic inside the place, because of its energy and the surprise of finding such a place. And who knows, maybe you will find someone playing the citar inside...

Good sandy beach with good swimming. No lifeguard but red flag put up when rough.
Occasional jelly fish when wind on shore. Plenty of room on beach, hammocks available but quite expensive at 18 euros for two. Very clothes optional, you can walk for miles au natural. Perhaps the quietest beach on the island, good parking.

Playa Ses Platgetes

Reviewed By GordonS77 - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

We stayed at a beach bungalow at Ses Platgetes in June.
The sandy beach was not crowded during this period, warm and sheltered. Water is crystal clear and very clean.
The village of Es Calo is only a few hundred meters away with shops and bars.
No commercial activity on the beach (sunbed/ parasol rental). The beach bar has closed and is no longer there.
Advice would be to wear water shoes as the rocks can be sharp and to be careful judging the depth of the water - it can be deeper than it looks when stepping off the rocks!

Playa Sa Roqueta

Reviewed By djpe - Halesworth, United Kingdom

I have not actually found a beach on Formentera that is not beautiful so ratings are always good ! We walked from Es Pujols Promenade about 10-15 mims - not very far. Lots of lovely spots to make your own. Crystal clear water. Narurally quieter than Es Pujols. Sa Roqueta a short distance away for drinks/lunch. Families, couples all find their own spots. Some naturists tucked away but no one seems to bother anyway (typical for the Island). Very nice relaxed atmosphere.
