Foligno [foˈliɲɲo] is an ancient town of Italy in the province of Perugia in east central Umbria, on the Topino river where it leaves the Apennines and enters the wide plain of the Clitunno river system. It is located 40 kilometres (25 miles) south-east of Perugia, 10 km (6 mi) north-north-west of Trevi and 6 km (4 mi) south of Spello.

This small museum is thoughtfully laid out in an interesting, historic palazzo/fortress. It contains some interesting art (particularly frescoes) and gives an overview of the history of this ancient city. The section devoted to jousting is a bonus. And, certainly in October, you will have the place almost all to yourself.

If you happen to visit Umbria and you have a car I highly recommend to visit Rasiglia.
This little town has lots of history and you will be fascinated to see how in the past they were using the power of the water to run all sort of activities. I went to see the Presepe Vivente and although was raining it was a great experience. So you know todays the purest water coming through this valley is feeding most of the towns in Umbria like Foligno.
A very nice experience to live once in your life!!

We went to Spello the Saturday before Corpus Domini to see the town "pre-L'Inforiata" and it was really charming. Groups of neighbors of all ages sitting together painstakingly cutting or plucking flower petals in preparation for the night's work to create the displays on the sidewalks. People were so friendly and it was interesting to see the process. It was also great to see Spello without the MOBS that descend the next day. Seeing the displays the next day definitely made it worthwhile to navigate the crowds but you won't be able to appreciate the beauty of Spello in the frenzy of the crowds.

Paesaggio spettacolare al centro dell'Appennino, con colori cangianti a seconda delle stagioni ed in relazione alle tipologie di semine. Concedetevi il giusto tempo per godervelo appieno.

An abbey just outside Foligno in a beautiful woodland setting. Built in XI century on the site of a previous fortified residence it became quite wealthy before 1400,but later fell into a decline. The main feature is the beautiful chiostro from 1229 with 128 columns decorated with mosiacs. Definitely worth the side trip!

Unlike the previous reviewer I had no objection at all to paying a little to be able to see inside the chapel. It was only two euros, I think. The person who opened it was friendly and informative.
The frescoes are not only absolutely gorgeous in a decorative, artistic sense, but also full of absorbing detail, meaning and human sympathy, and deserve plenty of time. If possible read something about them before you go in.
Various books are on sale next to the chapel. I bought one on Pinturicchio. I think perhaps I should also have bought one on just these frescoes.
No photographs allowed. Good.

We visited Rasiglia with local friends. They took us afterwards to this small unassuming church, just outside the village. It is just beautiful. The paintings and the ex voto are something special. It felt really wonderful to be there, quiet and taking everything in.

THE MICROBREWERY The ethic microbrewery DieciNove is located in the historic center of Spello, a small village in the province of Perugia, at the foot of Mount Subasio. In the micro-laboratory adjacent to the tasting room are produced monthly about 18 hectoliters of beer characterized by the use of so-called "Forgotten Fruits". Given the peculiarity of our production, the company is always looking for high quality products. The raw materials used in the manufacturing process are in fact monitored and controlled before use. For malts we chose semifinished of high quality, which as well as to guarantee us a 100% traceability, allow us to devote more attention to the process of flavoring beer. The product, which do not add preservatives of any kind, is neither pasteurized nor filtered, but re-fermented in the bottle to keep the property of the raw beer.

We spent three wonderful days exploring Spello and nearby cities. While wandering the streets we arrived at this microbrewery. As a lover of all things beer (in addition to wine), had to stop in for a taste.
Young gentleman at the bar didn't speak English which was fairly prevalent across this region so if you get frustrated trying to communicate in broken Italian, English, pantomime, I would recommend you get some help.
I had no trouble ordering up a beer from their short list of two available, but was tougher trying to discuss styles and brew methods so just stood and sipped. Very light in style and body, nothing to write home about but nothing offensive either. Fun change of pace.
