Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower

Reviewed By Neha M - Toronto, Canada

We loved our long drive from Toronto to Muskoka. You still cannot see fall colors there or in Algonquin Provincial Park. I don't know what's happening with the fall. I was super excited to see the Fall colors from the tower but it turns out there are very few leaves who changed there color.
If you are afraid of heights then this tower is not for you. When we were in the queue we didn't knew the consequences but later when we were on the stairs it was really scary. Upon reaching we felt that the tower is vibrating because of people that means tower is not strong enough that's why they say "Use at your own risk" if something happens to that tower then there is no guarantee that you'll be safe. People go there with there toddlers which is not okay. Toddlers were scared and yes adults were scared too!
They charge 8$ for your car if you want to take it a little inside and want to park near the tower(which is about 1 km from the main road). If you are willing to park your car outside then also you have to pay 2$ as you have to walk.. so you have to walk for 1 km and you've to spend your energy then you've to pay 2$ and moreover you are risking your life by reaching to the top of that tower. As they are charging people they can rebuild that tower so that it could be safe for people.
I'm just sad that we drove a long way and didn't saw the perfect fall foliage.

Algonquin Outfitters

The heart and soul of Algonquin Outfitters is found at our original store in Oxtongue Lake, opened in 1961. A lot has changed since that day and a lot has not. The Oxtongue Lake base maintains the largest selection of outfitting equipment, canoes and camping supplies. Canada’s largest light weight rental canoe fleet is hosted here, along with a wide selection of kayaks and even four 26′ Voyageur canoes for group outings. With a wide range of camping and canoeing gear, bikes and accessories in the rental program, the Oxtongue Lake store is set up to outfit almost any Wilderness adventure. Near by you can discover a scenic easy paddle to the base of Ragged Falls on the Oxtongue River where you can enjoy the beauty of this raging waterfall or hike the near by woods. Great day trip for groups of families. Our main outfitting base is located just outside the western entrance to Algonquin Park. The resort community of Oxtongue Lake is near the village of Dwight, about 20 minutes from Huntsville on Highway 60. Established in 1961 by Bill Swift Sr. and his family, the store is centrally located to canoe route access points both along Highway 60 and on the west side of the park. Additionally, it is the home of the Swift Canoe Company’s Algonquin Canoe Store, where a wide variety of canoe models are available for sale and test paddling.

I have to include both the Huntsville location and Oxtongue. We went to Ox location to rent a stand up paddle board. They were out. But told us they would call when one came available. I also called Huntsville, they said the same. Within 2 hours Ox called. They had one! Amazing! Got there picked it up, they gave great advice on the tie down too. Paddle board = super fun. My 60 year old dad an avid kayaker loved it too. Rent for two days, the second day you'll be a pro! Give yourself a day to really learn and one to enjoy! On the second day, the Huntsville store called! Amazing customer service! Book in advance even if its a week day. Enjoy!

The view from start to end is so tranquil and serene. Spending many hours paddling to the falls and back. Pondering time around the patch of water grass, the water lilies, the water hyacinth, watching the multi coloured dragon flies fluttering their wings are precious moments.
Need a whole day to really taking in the view. A good place to release worries, aches and pains.
