The Adventure Park at Long Island

Located in Wheatley Heights, NY on five spectacular wooded acres of the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds, The Adventure Park at Long Island is the area's most exciting new attraction. The Adventure Park appeals to outdoor fun-seekers age 7 through adult and features multiple zip lines and aerial ropes challenge courses.

Everything was fantastic. Only suggestion is they need a few more staff to help with the warm up and some of the easier courses as we were held up quite a bit by some kids the weren't proficient on the equipment.

Belmont Lake State Park

I have lived in the area for yeRs, and have frequented the park every summer , going on o picnics, BBQ's and the like. However, this year in efforts to stay healthy, I have begun walking and/or bike riding thru here on my lunch hour, since I normally sit a lot for my job.
There is nothing better to clear your head and enjoy nature. I go through the trails which are safe, although I am often with a co-worker. The birds and geese, ducks etc are plentiful and the lake is just so nice. You can rent a rowboat or paddle boat for a foster and do the lake if you wish,
Nice picnic facilities, and clean bathrooms.

American Airpower Museum

The American Airpower Museum is Non-Profit 501C3 Aviation Museum and State Chartered Educational Foundation. A unique Museum in that many of the historic Aircraft are operational and fly regularly during the spring and summer months. The Museum is located at historic Republic Airport in Farmingdale NY. The Airport established back in the 1920s by Fairchild and Grumman Aviation. Eventually the home of Seversky Aviation during the 1930s it would evolve into Republic Aviation in 1939. In 1941 Republic produced the P-47 Thunderbolt which would go on to be the most mass produced fighter of WWII with over 15,000 built. Republic would go on to build the F-84, F-105, and A-10 Fighter Aircraft all right here in Long Island NY. Today the American Airpower Museum calls one of the last three surviving Republic Hangars home.

Here are some STRONG SUGGESTIONS or HELPFUL HINTS upfront:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. This place deals in CASH ONLY...so bring lots of cash ($200 or more is safe as tickets for 2 Adults + 2 kids with bonus rides will total $100). Food and other activity costs will run you more depending on how long you spend at White Post.

2. Pay the extra $10 per kid for the Train Ride & Pony Ride tokens -- WHEN YOU BUY YOUR TICKETS.

3. Bring the kids some BATHING SUITS or clothes they can wet in and change in to DRY clothes...otherwise the Disney themed waterslides are OUT...

***We did not know about the water slides when we got there and our kids really wanted to do it.***

4. Everyone should wear COMFORTABLE CLOTHING to deal with outdoor activities and animal related interactions.

5. To get your money's worth for you & your family, expect to spend at least 3 hours...or more.

6. Do the enclosed BIRD FEEDING area. It is worth -- Paying $3 per feeding stick or $5 for 2 feeding sticks...so, the birds will come to you and your kids to eat the seeds.

NOW, my review. White Post Farms was a REAL FUN TIME for my children. THEY LOVED IT! They could not get enough of this place...they wore us out and later themselves.

It was worth seeing them happy and full of smiles while they had fun at White Post Farms.

We would definitely return to this place -- AGAIN!!!!

Walt Whitman Birthplace

In 1819, Walt Whitman was born at a farmhouse in West Hills built by his father circa 1810. The Birthplace was restored in 2001 and it is a fine example of native Long Island craftsmanship.

Another local gem just stashed behind Rte 110 that you'd pass daily, as I did for 1.5 years when I went to college down the road 25 yrs ago.......Again, nice to see very young docents working there. The one that gave my tour wants to be a curator at a grand museum one day, I wish him luck as he seemed passionate about this little historical home.
