After visiting this museum shortly after it opened I was most impressed. Returning with friends I enjoyed it just as much and liked hearing their very favourable comments. It has a great guide and gives a good impression of how wealthy families lived in Corfu town. Highly recommend it but do not go on a tour - the individual tickets at the door are very reasonable.

I wasn't too sure what to expect, but Corfu Town was a real surprise. There's loads to see, the architecture is superb, numerous restaurants and cafes, museums and winding alleys with shops. Sure, you have the usual tourist tat shops, but they don't overwhelm you as in many other towns. My only gripe was that the Archaeological Museum was closed when we were there. Reckon you'd need at least two days to see and do everything in the town.

Halikounas has little in common with the rest of Corfu: it is a long stretch of sand, backed by the dunes that separate the sea from a lagoon. Flora (beautiful dune vegetation) and fauna (flamingos and other birds) can be found in abundance, so much that the South end of the beach is considered a bird sanctuary, with viewing huts. Very special.

This is an exceptional old garden full of trees shrubs and flowers including orchids opened in 1814 it contains hundreds of British graves and continues to be the last place of rest for Anglicans in Corfu.

I believe this summer there was only little rain in Corfu and the ground was very dry. I expected there would be grass and flowers but it was mostly sand, trees, bushes and some aloe plants. It is tranquil place with old gravestones and soldier's graves.
Thanks to the friendly people of Corfu town I got there but I did lose my way so many times. I suggest you take a cab and save some time. There is so much more to see in Corfu town.

Located at the North end of SGS just beyond the Aquis Sandy Beach resort.
Miles of golden sand, a gently shelving beach ideal for swimming.
There is a car park at the watersport centre but it cannot be reached directly from SGS.
At the start of the beach are the sunbed and umbrellas of the Aquis resort, then there is a gap, and then you reach the sunbed and umbrellas of the waterside centre.
At the watersport centre there are drinks, snacks, toilets and small changing cubicles.
These two areas are quite busy, but beyond them you can have huge stretches of beach to yourself.
Nude sunbathing is allowed along the quiet stretch once you get beyond the sunbed.
Beyond the sunbeds there isn't much shade, and the few bits of shade there are, are very popular.

Spianada is a stunning place to be. It is very easy to find, as it is in the centre of all activity in Old Corfu Town. It is absolutely huge and very green. We stayed in Corfu for four days and we visited the square frequently. It is very well designed with lots of space for people to walk, to run, to sit, to do anything they wish. There is lots of greenery as well as a beautiful Fountain and other interesting things. Apparently its construction dates back to the 18th century. It is a great place to visit and enjoy the views all around, like the Old Fortress, the Liston building with all its shops and everything else that goes on in the town.

It's so big, and I'm too darned tired to climb to the top of the fort. It's just that massive. Maybe tomorrow after I haven't been drinkin' so much! Normally, I don't give a hoot, but today... Well I'm feeling like sitting down and having an Ice Cold Coke... Oh wait, they don't have ice here, it's just a room temperature Coke!

Our three couples on a self-guided walking tour have walked from the Prinsendam docked at the port following our map based upon Sights and Landmarks listed on TripAdvisor Things to Do. At first we tried to understand the sculptors intent for this important message. The lines of the sculpture are both sharp and blurred with sad faces filled with concern. The positon of the hands seem to convey a reluctant submission to what is about to happen to them against their desires.
Our group’s historian says we are now in the old Jewish Ghetto of Old Corfu Town. The Jews cited on the plaque were rounded up to be deported off the island on June 10, 1944 just four days after the bombing of Normandy. The mayor of the island thanked the Germans for ridding the island of the Jews so that the economy of the island would revert to its "rightful owners".
The memorial is sobering without the knowledge of what has happened, but knowledge really intensifies the visual impact of this serious monument.

It was free when we went, as seems to be a frequent experience, but as there's not a lot to see unless the buildings are open, maybe they could get their act together and open them. You can't complain at the price... but the old fortress and views from it are infinitely superior.
