We came to see the horse museum. Many very artefacts that would be of great interest to anyone interested in Czech or English jump racing eg. a good place for horse racing fans to visit whilst on a trip to the Velka Pardubicka. Also, if you are lucky, you might be able to see some Kladruby Black horses in the paddocks at the back - they are very friendly.

This is probably the main attraction in Pardubice from a tourist point of view. The tower is open daily I believe but is definitely closed for lunch noon - 1 PM. Tickets are cheap and you can see a small gallery which hosted exhibition by some Irish painter at the time. You can climb the wooden stairs and see some displays obviously aimed at children on your way. The view is nice, the best overlooking the old square with the chateau. The gate was rebuilt after a fire and finished in 1547.

Pardubice Castle

Pardubice Castle is a showcase for the work of many talented individuals - architects, designers, sculptors, painters, engineers and military planners. This impressive late Gothic and early Renaissance residence, originally built for the powerful Pernstejn dynasty, is an oasis of calm in the very heart ov Pardubice´s city centre. Nestling amid its greenery, and still protected by its fortifications, this majestic palace still has the power to surprise visitors with its grandeur as soon as they step through the gates. The castle attracts tens of thousands of people per year, enjoying not only the building itself, but also the treasures of the East Bohemia Musem and East Bohemia Gallery. Pardubice Castle is one of the Czech Republice´s most valuable cultural heritage sites.

Took the train from Pardubice and from there it is about a 15 minute walk to the Chateau. I especially enjoyed walking through the old town square of Pardubice. Once at the Chateau you can pay to see the exhibits you would like. I chose to see the historic firearm room as well as the coin collection. That's just my own personal taste. Both exhibits were very nice. Overall a very enjoyable visit and I would go back to see more next time.

Since 1972 the Chrudim Puppet Museum introduces visitors to the development of puppetry in the Czech lands and presents outstanding collection of puppets from different countries. Today, the Museum has around 50,000 items, including more than 8,500 puppets from around the World. The important parts of the muzeum are also a professional library and a research center.

If you like puppets that is place for you! Chrudim is quite small town, but it worth visiting it, because you can see a nice main square with old buildings there and three museums. Puppet Museum is one of them.
You have to buy a ticket. It cost 60,- crowns and there are discounts for families and young people, too. It is possible to take guide tour (even in English! ) for group 5+ , but you have to order it 14 days before. So not very practical.
There is a permanent collection and seasonal Exhibitions during year. The exhibition is located in one of the the most beautiful building in Chrudim - Mydlářský dům, the Renaissance-style building. There is a tiny tower on the top, and there is really nice view of Chrudim from this place.
There are many rooms with hundreds and hundreds beautiful puppets. They are mostly from the Czech Republic, but not only. I higly recommend visiting this lovely Puppet Museum.
BTW Chrudim is not so far from Prague. One and a half hour by train (you have to change trains in Pardubice) or directly by bus. It is perfect one day trip for all (not only foreigners) tourists.

Turisticke informacni centrum

Reviewed By Tony M - Dudley, United Kingdom

I spend a lot of time in Pardubice. The tourist information centre is great. Good for books, local souvenirs, typical Pardubice gingerbread etc. I always buy something here to take home, I prefer to spend my money in Pardubice rather than Prague. The ladies who work here are very good. They can help with things like train and bus times and sell you local bus tickets.
