The Iwai Masakado Matsuri began as a way to revive the dashing figure of Taira no Masakado in modern times, and this festival held every November is emblematic of autumn. During the prayer for victory at Kokuo Shrine, a group of 100 warriors march down an avenue of cedar trees to the sound of the Kanda Myojin Masakado drums, recreating a scene from times gone by. After the pre-battle ceremony, visitors can witness the impressive sight as they march together with a parade of children through the pedestrian mall.
