Due to short staying, we decided to choose this mangrove tour to end our try of Amami and ended up the worth try!
It was great experience of learning from the expert(sorry forgot his name is,,,) who has been guiding this mangrove inhabitant for decades; the geographical fact of in-habitation of mangrove, types of mangroves, other habitats such as unique insects and creatures, moreover , we had chance to touch and feel the creatures one by one!
Very good for all, family, friends, and even solo traveler!

Tomori Beach

This beach is unique for its clean white sand. We swam and snorkeled.
From the airport go north on road 58 towards Cape Ayamaru. Tomori beach (sometime pronounced Domori beach) is slightly before the cape. Be aware that there are no facilities except toilets so you should bring your own shade, water and food. But the beach is one of the best in the island.

This little aquarium is very small, though it fits right in with its beach front setting. The staff here are very nice, though most only speak Japanese. There is feeding times when you can feed the sea turtles and learn about the relationship of Amami islanders and the sea.

We went with a group here and it was a good walk...not too strenuous and certainly not that scary. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and the tranquility of being so close to nature.

This museum describes very well the specific culture and the unique nature of Amami. It is full of love to the people, music, plants, and animals of Amami. There is an adjacent museum dedicated to the skillful and tragic painter Tanaka Isson, who spent the last 20 years of his life at Oshima. We can feel his love to the nature of Amami through his paintings. A combined ticket costs 600 Yen.

Yanigawa Shopping Street
