Hyannis /ˌhaɪˈænɪs/ is the largest of the seven villages in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is the commercial and transportation hub of Cape Cod and was designated an urban area as of the 1990 census. Because of this, many refer to Hyannis as the "Capital of the Cape". It contains a majority of the Barnstable Town offices and two important shopping districts: the historic downtown Main Street and the Route 132 Commercial District, including Cape Cod Mall and Independence Park, headquarters of Cape Cod Potato Chips. Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis is the largest on Cape Cod.

Just beautiful ! Well worth seeing. Can just imagine the Kennedy's going to church there, very emotional and touching. The doors were open, so we could go in and sit and truly enjoy the majesty; beautiful sanctuary with stained glass windows, and be in peace & solitude. We were there on a Saturday afternoon, in September.

a great way to get to the Island of Nantucket which is a great day trip or a place to spend some great vacation days. We mostly spend about a week or ten days here. a great beach is available and the town itself is a true gem. The small restaurants are very nice and so are the large ones, however the large ones tend to be a bit expensive and I like the felling I get in the smaller ones plus saving money also. The small places to stay on the Island are very nice and clean and the owners are for the most part very proud of there places. The shops are varied and it is fun sometimes just to kind of window shop and pick up some small things for friends and family. The steamship is a nice, fast, clean way to go and the price is not bad. If you bike take one.If they take cars when you go over for more than a day take it. If not you will pay dearly for a rent a car service. I say this due to it was long ago I made my first trip over and someone said You do not need a car as it is a small Island,Oh,did I find out.Rented a car and left a brand new Caddy in a parking lot on the mainland. Bad move folks. This is personal advise, take it or leave it. that is an old saying but the correct part is Take it.do not leave it.so we visit and take it for the long time stays. short stay of a day or even two you can get around ok or hire a cab or bus like vehicle. Have a great time. It is an outstanding place to visit.

We've driven past this little museum many times in the past but never stopped in. Friends suggested we visit with them so we stopped by. This little building is chock full of interesting maritime exhibits, from a scrimshaw display, sailors valentines, detailed model ships, ancient navagation equipment, etc etc. and that's just up stairs, downstairs is a boatbuilding workshop and outside is a boat shed with interesting small boats. A fun informative trip and the staff was more than willing to answer any questions and provided a lot of insight. We'll be back. We signed up for their newsletter to get info on new displays.

John F Kennedy Hyannis Museum

The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum Foundation preserves and promotes the legacy of President Kennedy, his family, and their deep connection to Cape Cod. John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum is a multimedia exhibit designed to open a window on the days JFK spent on Cape Cod; days relaxing with family, days as President of the United Sates when the Cape provided a time to relax and be reinvigorated and days spent sailing on the ocean to which he was so constantly drawn. The Museum's exhibits features videos and photographs spanning the years 1934 to 1963 and is arranged in thematic groupings to reflect John F. Kennedy, his family, his friends and the Cape Cod he so dearly loved. In addition to photography, a video narrated by Walter Cronkite depicts the president's experiences on the Cape. Several themed areas include charged oral histories of JFK's friends. Please check our website for correct dates and times that the museum is open.

Second visit to the museum and it was great to see improvements to the exhibits being constantly made. The Jacques Lowe exhibition of family photos was great with the highlight being the picture of Bobby Kennedy failing to hide his dislike of Lyndon Johnson at a meeting with the Kennedy boys.
