A misty Sunday morning walk took me up the mountains of Ballyhoura. I would suggest to GPS Ballyhoura Car Park before setting out as this will bring you to the beginning of the walk. The walk itself can become steep at times taking you past a ringfort and up over many hills and mountains including Seefin Mountain and a good workout. It is an area with many rocks and shadows in the distance and carries an air of mystery about it. There is a presence of steeping back thousands of years while standing within this environment. I came in early January which led to lots of bog land, though there is always access through.

Horses for every riding ability and lessons targeted according to experience. Fantastic huge indoor arena and true all weather outdoor arenas. It's possible to stay here during some parts of the year but the rooms are a bit minimalist and they usually are for young horse camp students during the summer months. I did have lunch a few times in their lodging house. It is family style and delicious -- cooks choice. I stayed in town at the Dunraven Inn and took and cab each day to and from the stables. It's a pretty nice older hotel.

Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trail

Reviewed By neilbU8510AB

Heard about these trails from other cyclists and it sounded good. I made the long trip from county Longford. Suffice to say the trails are exactly as you would hope and I brought my own mountain bike which is recommended if a dedicated cyclist. The outward trails are very long with features that coerce you to keep going on and on. Even though you think you should start to turn back, the next trail (say from brown to white, white to blue to red) looks so tempting that it's hard to resist. Can easily find yourself overstretched with not enough energy or fitness to return to the start as the trails are just so long in length. However, more signage has appeared that directs the exhausted cyclist to a shortcut "way home" . The area is 25square miles of terrain with all sorts of historic trails that is described nowadays as enduro. Need plenty of liquid and energy bars to do the course. Most fit mountain bikers need two days to complete the whole course. Most of the trails are in neighbouring county Cork and has many entry points apart from the Trailcentre entrance in Greenwood (Trailriders).
