10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Padstow That You Shouldn't Miss

March 2, 2022 Nicolette Lion

Walking is a way of life in the picturesque Cornwall town of Padstow. The South West Coast Path—which, at 630 miles, is Britain’s longest footpath—stretches along the coast and, via ferry, across the River Carmel. The former fishing port is today a hub of fine wining and dining. Lose yourself in the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a fairyland of heirloom flowers, or go back to the future at the Eden Project, a horticultural wonderland housed inside dramatic biodomes.

A great guided tour of the brewery, with many beer tastings along the way. From history of how the Brewery started and an great process walk through for how beer is produced - ingredients, process steps and packaging. A lot going on in a small space, but most importantly the beers are great. Great value for £25 per head, with a nice gift pack of two beers and a glass. Staying in Padstow for a long weekend, we were also able to buy a Firkin for a lot more beers later !! Highly recommend this tour in a great part of Cornwall.

We have always liked the Padstow Brewing Company beers, and liked the previous tasting rooms in Broad Street, so we were impressed to see that the old Post Office on Duke Street had been converted into another Padstow Brewery Tasting Rooms when we visited over the August bank holiday. We loved the new Tasting Rooms, and visited again twice during the first week in November before the lockdown started. The staff are really friendly, the beers are all fantastic, and we would recommend the Hop, Skip & Dance. We loved the cheese platter and the other platters looked really good too - perfect complements to the beers. We are hoping to return to Padstow in December - Covid permitting - and we will certainly be making a few more visits to the new Tasting Rooms while we are there. A special thanks to Gayle who looked after us this week, and by her own admission, loves her new job !

A really well laid out museum with exhibits clearly displayed and lots of good information provided. It's not huge but the museum gives a great description of the history of Padstow and its people.

National Lobster Hatchery

The National Lobster Hatchery is a conservation, education and research charity based in Padstow, Cornwall. We exist primarily to help conserve the vulnerable lobster populations and preserve the coastal marine bio-diversity of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We have a visitor centre which offers a unique window into our lobster hatchery and has a wealth of information about these amazing creatures, the fishery and the importance of a sustainable fishery. Come and see our baby and giant lobsters. Are you brave enough to put your hand in our eel cave? The Visitor Centre is open everyday (except Christmas Day) from 10am but closing times vary. Please check our website for confirmation.

Had a lovely visit to the lobster hatchery. It was really interesting to learn about lobsters and their lives which I knew nothing about before. There are some large lobsters living there, a maternity ward for the lobsters carrying eggs and also a lot of baby lobsters which were very cute! Friendly staff who told us about the place. Would really recommend for a quick visit.

Retallack Aqua Park

From kids and adult birthday parties to hen do's and corporate team building, we've got something for everyone at Cornwall's biggest 'total wipeout' style Aqua Park

Reviewed By suekin2017 - London, United Kingdom

I have been to Retallack Park twice in the last week. Once to the Aqua Park with all the family and then a second time Wake boarding. The aqua Park was amazing fun and everyone, my 7 year old daughter, 11 and 14 year old sons and myself had a totally brilliant time. Trickier than it sounds to find something which entertains the whole family! Unlike some aqua parks there are no extra hidden costs as full length wetsuits are included in the price. ALL the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and charming and nothing seemed to be a problem. The pasties and turnovers from the cafe were also a big hit when we all got out! Wakboarding was even better fun. You get 1 to 1 tuition on a cable which they can vary the speed of depending on how well you are doing. Again all the staff were incredibly nice, helpful and good fun. Stupidly, I managed to drop one of my rings in the lake. One of the lifeguards (Ethan) put on his wetsuit and goggles and looked for it. I could not believe it when he actually found it! You don't get service much better than that! We will be back next year!
