A lot of industrial exhibtis from Chemnitz' industrial past ("The German Manchester") are shown, most prominent the machines that were used to produce different kinds of textiles. Many of the old machines do still work and are shown in action from time to time. All in all this is a really interesting place to visit and certainly something you shouldn't miss when in Chemnitz.

Villa Esche

Villa Esche – designed by Henry van de Velde in 1902/1903 for the Chemnitz-based stocking manufacturer Herbert Esche – is considered a masterpiece of modern architecture and a historical monument of European rank. The Art Nouveau villa is a highlight of the European Henry van de Velde Route. Today it serves as a conference venue, event setting and location and houses the first Henry van de Velde museum in Germany.

While Chemnitz is a rather uninspiring place, the museum is worth the trip. Excellent exhibits especially of German expressionists with large collection of Jawlensky and Otto Dix. Very nice building and set up of the exhibits.

This (private) museum has a great variety of old motorcycles and cars. Some of them (i .a. a car driven by a wood gasifier) are rarely to be seen elsewhere.

Fritz Theater

Als wir im Sommer 2010 aus dem fernen München anreisten und das Theater zum ersten mal zu Gesicht bekamen, waren wir begeistert. Das Haus bietet alles, was man sich als Zuschauer für einen gepflegten Theaterabend wünschen kann. Rote Samtvorhänge, Holzvertäfelung, schönes, einladendes Licht und 250 sitzfreundliche Plätze, allesamt mit guter Sicht zur Bühne. Also haben wir, gemäß dem Zitat von Max Reinhardt, unsere Kindheit in die Tasche gesteckt, alle Zelte abgebrochen und uns auf und davon gemacht um hier für Euch ein abwechslungsreiches Theaterprogramm anzubieten. Seitdem stehen wir im Fritz Theater nicht nur als Schauspieler auf der Bühne, sondern sind gleichzeitig: Bühnenbildner, Dramaturgen, Garderobieren, Hauspersonal, Inspizienten, Intendanz, Kostümbildner, Kulturmanager, Maskenbildner, Regisseure und Requisiteure Glaubt mit uns an die Unsterblichkeit des Theaters!!
