Quinta Santa Eufemia

Quinta Santa Eufemia was founded in 1864 by Bernardo Rodrigues Carvalho, and now is managed by the fourth generation of the Family who have been producing these fine old Douro Port wines, preservinf the alge-old-skills of winemaking and ageing.Situated on the left side of the river Douro, with over 50 hectares under vines, the vineyard produces grapes of the richest varieties, trodden in the traditional way and fermented on granite vats in order to extract their finest essences. The wine is aged in oak casks before being selectively blended to satisfy the most refined palates. We went here as part of a wine tasting tour through Douro valley and tried a few of their port wines. The tasting was really good, the lady who guided us through the wines was really friendly and forthcoming and explained everything to us, starting with the history of the winery, how the different port wine families differ and what makes them different and stand out. The wines were really good as well and we were never forced into buying anything! Nevertheless we got two small bottles in the end, cause it was really good and we wanted to support a business like this, especially in times like these. Would recommend this winery 100%!

Quinta da Padrela

Firstly I would like to thank Teresa, Pedro and Jose for our wonderful time on their farm, Pedro and Jose greeted us with all the info we needed for the house and the local area. The pool was clean, a good size with plenty of shady spots, a great view of the vineyard and all ours for the duration of our stay. The nearby villages of Barcos and Tabuaço are a short drive away when we needed to buy provisions but other than that we stayed on the farm and enjoyed the tranquility. Two things that kept us from going anywhere were the winery tour followed by tasting which was an education and enjoyable, then in the evening we ate a delicious traditional four course meal prepared by mama and papa who despite the language barrier were also very heartfelt and destinguished hosts. One thing I regret is that I didn't learn some Portuguese, that would have been the cherry on top. By the way, the drive from Porto through the Douro region was beautiful and set us up for what was to come.

Quinta do Popa

"Each man has their dream" Luis Pato The dream of the son of Francisco Ferreira (Popa) was held by acquiring a vineyard in Douro, in one of the best locations in the oldest wine region in the world, in which reside all his childhood memories. After its purchase, in 2003, at the time named as "Quinta do Vidiedo", led all his economic effort, dedication and perseverance adding small parcels, mostly old vineyards and others for planting new vineyards and groves, equally blessed by a soil quality and raised in terraces under the splendor of the Douro river. In 2008 this dreamer, with the support of his family and the oenologist Luis Pato, start a new cycle and pays tribute to his deceased father baptizing the vineyard with his nickname "Popa",attributed by his friends due to the liveliness and happiness which he led the life against the difficulties. Today, the Quinta do Popa comprises 14 hectares of vineyard composed of a mixture of noble grape varieties, all with the letter A, among them Tinta Roriz, followed by Touriga Franca, Tinto Cao, Sousao and Malvasia Preta with emphasis in large percentage of Touriga Nacional, apart from three hectares of old vineyards aged over 60 years of age. A project based on a family structure that connects different generations, which is reflected in the actual production process, in which reconcile the most sophisticated techniques with centuries of strict tradition, such as the vinification through foot treading in granite mills with conditions of temperature control, and in building a brand with personality and quality, created by its history and the harmonious marriage between the earth and its atmosphere that terroir has to offer.

Superb quinta with spectacular views & outstanding hospitality! We spent a happy 3 hours here yesterday tasting their wines, enjoying a delicious vineyard platter & soaking in the stunning views. Quinta da Pacheca

QUINTA DA PACHECA Nearly three hundred years old, Quinta da Pacheca is one of the Douro’s most renowned estates where worldwide awarded wines are produced. One of the first to bottle wine under its own brand, Quinta da Pacheca has always valued traditions, having one of the few 18th century’s remaining milestones, used in the original Pombal’s 1756 world’s first wine region demarcation. With 140 acres along and sloping down to the Douro River, the property is mentioned in an April 1738’s document as “Pacheca”, owned by Lady Mariana Pacheco Pereira. In 1903, by the hand of its new owner, the noble Jose Freire de Serpa Leitao Pimentel, the wine production significantly increased. The vineyards were then renewed and varieties were arranged by fields. The estate was again refurbished in 1916 and new warehouses were built. Eight imposing granite wine presses or “lagares” were then constructed and continue in use today, for the vinification Pacheca’s wines, under the advice of winemaker Maria Serpa Pimentel and agronomist Hugo Fonseca, for the vinification of Pacheca’s wines, for limited annual production of Douro DOC wines and special categories of Port Wines only. Maria do Ceu Goncalves and Paulo Pereira bought the estate in 2012, starting a new era of expansion and vitality.

You can't afford to miss it. Inside the Douro Valley region, you will find an opportunity to taste an excellent quality of wines from Douro, since Ports, Moscatel, reds and whites. Don't forget to taste the olive oil produced in the Quinta. Can you imagine sleeping in a wine barrel? You can do it there. Discover the magnificent restaurant. What a place!!! My favorite in the Douro Valley region.
