Thank you to JJ, Bim & Phon (sorry if spelt wrong) for having us at Elephant Valley, it was such an amazing experience and definitely the highlight of our trip to Asia! We did the full day tour/volunteering experience with overnight stay at the guest house which I would 100% recommend for anyone considering seeing elephants in Thailand! This is a true "sanctuary", totally hands off to tourists so you get to learn about and see first hand how these beautiful animals interact in their natural habitat which is incredible. Not only that but you get to help the keepers and staff prepare the elephants food, clean up their poo (more fun than it sounds) and genuinely help to keep the sanctuary a great place for the elephant to live . Thanks again Elephant Valley Thailand!

Me and my girlfriend took the half-day cooking class, which was going something like this: - We were picked up at our Hostel and met the other cooking classmates. We then directly decided on what the menu should look like, which was an easy process as we were deciding one dish each more or less in the subgroups (we were a total of 5 people and 3 subgroups). Therefore, decide on what you would like to cook on before hand and make sure that at least one of your desired dishes will be made. - Then we went directly to the market to buy the groceries for the dishes, but as well was offered to taste some different appetizers at the market stalls like sticky rice, rice pancake, coffee/tea and sausage. Jaruwan were very easy to talk to and could answer any question we had regarding what the different things at the market were. - After having bought all the ingredients, we went to the Cooking School to begin the cooking class, but were first given a delightful drink made from a flower we saw on the market and ate some awesome pineapple. - Then we got introduced to the house and all the different places to cook and eat the food. So first we made the curry paste and then started doing the different dishes. Once we were finished we ate it and so it went past. - What struck us was how smoothly the prepared each room for us to have an as delightful cooking class as we could ever imagined to have. - The food became amazing and was as reviewers previously mentioned, very easy to make which was fascinating and a good leason to bring home with you: If you know what makes the basics of Thai Food then it is easy. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for this experience and for the lessons we learnt, now we are eager to get home to wow our friends with our new thai cooking skills! Thank you everyone at Akha Kitchen for a lovely day!

Doi Tung

Reviewed By BangkokJock - Bangkok, Thailand

The original must go destination in Chiang Rai. The small restaurant offers good cheap northern Lanna food. The museum about the Princess Mother and the Mahidol family is always inspiring but its exactly the same as 10 years ago so needs an upgrade. I enjoyed my visit to the Doi Tung Villa as we took time to listen to the audio guide and really look around. The local market on the way to the car park offers lots of local products, fruits, vegetables from the local hill tribe villagers. One big recommendation from me is to drive down from Doi Tung to Mae Sai past the Arboretum on route 1149, going through Pha Hee village. The route is one of the most beautiful on the Thai-Myanmar border, driving past a Burmese border outpost & seeing Myanmar's mountains of Shan State.
