Arts, entertainment, fashion, history and nature: Incheon has it all (and more)! The city is undergoing an extravagant real estate development, with a projected finish date of 2015. It also expects a large number of visitors for its 2014 Asian Games. Visitors can peruse designer shops in the Bupyeong district, enjoy events at the Arts Centre or discover local history at Liberty Park and Independence Memorial Hall. Head to the country's only official Chinatown for authentic cuisine and souvenirs. A ferry rides to the nearby islands is the perfect escape from the excitement of the city.

I had an unexpected layover in Incheon And a lady in our hotel recommended this bath house. I had only heard about the Korean bathhouses and really looked forward to the experience. It was a really relaxing way to spend half the day of my layover, and a great cultural experience Entrance fee was about 9USD. You get two small towels, a locker for your shoes, and a second locker for your clothing. From there you strip down, grab a small bowl for your things and head into the bath area. There is a counter to buy scrubbing mats, toiletries, and even clothing by the door near the entrance to the baths A woman who clearly was a regular showed us what to do and helped us reserve our place in the line to get a scrub and massage. The battery I had showers, stools in front of low sinks for scrubbing, and soaking pools of various temperatures ranging from quite cold to quite hot. To get a massage and scrub, we were instructed to put down the cash on a table near the massage station and received a number. We happily lounged in the warm and hot tubs until our number was called. The scrub and massage were very thorough, and incredibly relaxing. Our massage included a facial of fresh cucumber applied to our faces and covered with cheese cloth. If you have never had a Korean bath experience, be aware that the massages, scrubs, and showering are all out in the open. It is a very relaxed and community-feeling type of setting. All in all, this was an amazing experience both for the chance to participate in daily culture, and for the relaxation.

I have been to both the spa in the basement of incheon airport and the transit lounge in terminal 1. The big difference for me is that the spa (which costs $7 usd is located outside security. So if you have a long layover and want to leave then that is where you would want to go. This area does include hot tubs and other services for more money. But it is communal (not a private shower— many naked people all around you showering and freshening up). What I recommend much more to anyone is to use the transit lounge for long layovers. This lounge is only for those with long layovers and they will ask to see your ticket. But it’s right smack dab in the middle of terminal 1 on the upper floor. They have PRIVATE free showers (30 min time limit), a ”napzone” which includes a bunch of day beds in a darker lit room, a relax zone which was a bunch of people on their phones, and a “workzone” which as you can guess has a bunch of outlet and desk space. It’s so nice up there!! However, everyone I asked didn’t know where it was or that it existed. I did have to find this on my own. So the key is when you get off a flight with a long layover, don’t leave the airport. Instead follow the signs for transfer so you are still on the side passed security where the gates are. If you are super adventurous and want to spend your layover exploring, they do have free transit tours which means free tours to people who have long layovers. They leave the airport and they have a space to hold your bags or you can take them on the bus. The tour include places like shopping districts, temples, a cave tour, casino, etc. they are all at different times so if your layover is long enough you can go on more than one.
