I recommend you take the time to take the one-hour tour around this ancient and historical church with it’s 53m high bell tower constructed in the early 12th century), whilst in St. Émilion. Led by our knowledgeable Lydie, we explored the catacombs beneath and then through to the huge Church. It was listed as a world heritage site in 1999 by UNESCO.

We passed by and dropped in to try out the 2016 vintage, which was lovely. Refreshing after the 31 degree heat outside!

Eglise Collegiale de Saint-Emilion

Our guide gave us the history of this wonderful church from the 12th century. The stained glass windows are magnificent but also take in the story of the pieces or art around the church. No wonder the city of Saint-Emilion is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to take in the underground church from the 9th and 12nd centuries, along with the catacombs.

Clocher de l'Eglise Monolithe

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

The bell tower is the highest landmark in St Emillion and from its top you get to enjoy fab 360-degree views of the town and surrounding countryside. It is a bit of a slog - up a narrow flight of some 200 steps - but if find yourself getting out of breath there are a couple of levels along the way at which you can have a rest. And the views from the lower levels of the tower are pretty impressive too. Cost is a reasonable €2 per person and you pay at the tourist office.

A nice Lavoir, well kept, that seeps history. You can sit in the restaurant next door, and soak in historic days gone by. Well worth a visit.
