Spectacular views of Newcastle and its beaches. Brilliant design; from just a hill it has been transformed into a regular walking trek while giving a great tribute to the Australian WW1 diggers! Not to be missed..

Cape Byron Lighthouse

Reviewed By joniquelife - Australia, null

This lighthouse is sitting on the top of the hill on the outskirts of Byron Bay township with a great circuit walking trail that goes up and around the entire headland. Also a great place to spot whales off the headland during migration season This walk is moderate from the main Byron Bay Beach with amazing views or you can park closer and walk up! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

Fort Scratchley

Reviewed By simonc721 - Munich, Germany

You can wander around the fort for free: there are some gun emplacements facing out to sea and three rooms describe the history of the fort (including how Newcastle was attacked by a Japanese submarine in WWII) and there are volunteers in army uniform around the site to explain things further. I also saw the 1pm cannon firing and did the paid ($12.50, 1h20m long) tunnels tour to see where the gunpowder and shells were stored and how firing the guns worked.

Tacking Point Lighthouse

Reviewed By katieo223 - Wagga Wagga, Australia

This lighthouse has an amazing viewing platform where you can sit and watch the sea for hours. I noted a few people have said access was prevented due to road works. If you are physically able continue down the road to lighthouse beach carpark. Walk down to the beach and to the base of the lighthouse around 100m; stairs (about 50) go to the top with a rest station on the way.
