It's a bit of a hike up hill from the very lovely town of Orta San Guilia on a glorious lake, Lago d'Orta. This is like a pilgrimage to Saint Francis. There are 15-20 small chapels, each with life-size reproductions of events in the Saint's life. The human figures are remarkeably realistic and life like. It's a very quiet and serene environment and well worth a visit in this most lovely spot in the Lake District of Northern Italy

This Romanesque basilica (Basilica di San Giuio) was constructed and reconstructed over centuries on San Giulio Island ( Isola di San Giulio), located in Lake Orta in northwestern Italy. This small island is a jewel not often seen by tourists. The basilica is the most famous building on the island, but don't miss the nearby Benedictine monastery. Your trip should include a walk around this picturesque island, Boats to the island leave regularly from Orta, the lake's namesake village. While in Orta, be sure to visit the Sacro Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its 21 chapels dedicated to St. Francis.

This is the main hub of Orta. It's filled with restaurants and, the day we were there, an outdoor market. It's the place from which the ferry and private boats leave for Isola San Guilio.

Palazzo Penotti Ubertini, sorge al centro del borgo medievale di Orta san Giulio. Situato sulla salita della Motta a sinistra della parrocchiale dell'Assunta, fornisce la location ideale, raffinata ed esclusiva, per ospitare matrimoni, eventi, sevizi fotografici, sfilate, mostre, presentazioni, cene di gala con catering, meetings. Presenta un frontale imponente d'un riposato neoclassico.Collegati all'atrio, dove troviamo un magnifico pianoforte austriaco e vecchie armi, ci sono i saloni ognuno dei quali spicca per la particolarità dei pavimenti e dei soffitti a cassettoni decorati. Altra caratteristica del palazzo sono i suoi camini: indimenticabile quello in marmo bianco. Nella saletta verso nord ritroviamo, invece, un altro camino, cinquecentesco, con al centro lo stemma visconteo, a destra il motto " a bon fin".Il giardino, i cortili, le cantine e tutto il piano nobile sono a disposizione per ospitare ogni tipo di evento.
